So Nintendo wins because most of its games don't make me feel bad for playing them right?

Get some nuance with your theology and get back to me. If you shame yourself over some of the stuff that's "bad", that's not the company's fault.

No, but it will prevent me from buying their products. The eyes are the gateway to sin. That's why Jesus said if your eye is causing you to sin gauge it out. When you put things on your TV screen that the Bible says specifically NOT to do and you are looking at it knowing that it would pop up on your screen you are sinning. If you are playing a game with nudity like every Duke Nukem game out there, you are pretty much just throwing the Bible out the window. You cannot pick bits and pieces of the Bible so you can sin the way you want to. If you throw out some stuff you might as well throw out the other stuff too. It's all or nothing you either believe in the Bible or you don't. You are either a Christian or you are not. There is no in between with God. There is no in between with Heaven and Hell.

I understand your point AJ and some things like duke nuke that seem like pretty clear lines.

I will say that something's are ok for some people that aren't ok for others. Like when Paul talked about eating meat that had been sacrificed to idols or what the bible has to say about the ways in which people honor the sabbath.  My advice would be to be careful not isolate people who exercise a larger view of freedom.

Yeah, don't buy Sony TVs because they have bad programming!

Wait, what?

(Console creators and game design are largely unrelated. This isn't the point that Olijar was getting at, but it's related to your first statement.)

Today I Learned that if you buy a PS4, you apparently HAVE to buy all the M rated games, and that makes it evil.

Or, you know, don't buy the games you have a problem with, like an adult, instead of blaming the platform like a child.

While I share and agree with the sentiment of separating the console from the games made for it, there's no need to degrade someone that thinks otherwise. It's their prerogative what they spend their money on and if they feel that staying away from the system as a whole is better for their walk then we should be glad they're trying to avoid temptation.

On the other hand, that doesn't necessarily mean you can't/shouldn't use the system if you find that it doesn't bother you spiritually. Everyone is different and sin comes in many shapes, sizes, and flavors for each person.

For me personally, I find gaming to be a favored activity but I stay away from games that blatantly have things that bother me either personally or spiritually. I don't expect others to do the same but I respectfully decline or leave if said games are being played somewhere else and don't allow them to be played in my residence.

I have expressed in a previous thread from a while ago why Nintendo lost my support with the Wii U. Interestingly, I was trying to do a search for that old post but my search for Wii U ended up with this message:

Each word must be at least two characters long.

Nintendo only got better with the Wii U. It has 5 player options for certain games with new controls. We use the Wii U a ton and it has been amazing. It rarely freezes ( unlike my Sony Vita ) and has all the same games you are used to with a new look and controls. I have heard the " worried about sharing the Gamepad " issue and it has never been a problem with a group of competitive adults, a 13 year old and a 6 year old. At night we usually watch an Andy Griffith show on amazon and relax. So the Wii U was 100% worth the purchase.

This might also be a good time to point out that your perfect family friendly console also carries many of the same games that you believe make the Playstation and Xbox bad.

The Duke Nukem games were originally for the Nintendo 64

It's also not exactly fair to compare Wii U hardware to Vita hardware.

Even though they're probably not far removed in specs (shameless pot-shot #1).

Just a question--if you were interested in a system solely to play family-friendly games, would anyone here really pay $100-$200 more to get a PS4 or XBox One over a Wii U?

Looking at lists of best-selling games for the various PS and XBox consoles, it is fairly clear that the majority of Sony and Microsoft fans are not buying the hardware to specialize in the family-friendly side of the fence.

The number one selling non-Nintendo game of all time is Kinect Adventures.

The number one selling non-Nintendo game of all time is Kinect Adventures.
By that token the number one best selling PC game of all time has got to be Minesweeper. It is amazing what giving away a copy of software with every piece of hardware sold will do for you.

Sales of stand alone games are much better indicators in this regard. For that we have Halo 3 (XBox 360), for Grand Theft Auto V (PS3), and Mario Kart Wii (Wii).

It is. It means Nintendo dominates the Top 10 with Wii Sports, Super Mario Bros, Tetris, and Duck Hunt. Unfortunately for PC enthusiasts, the novelties you find bundled away in your Accessories folder do not count towards NPD Groups retail tracking. Or any industry expert for that matter.

I can see where you're coming from, but it's also easy to find that bundled games often do sell the console. This is especially true for bundled games that are not part of the console at launch. Kinect Adventures was not bundled with the 360 at launch, unlike all of the bundled Nintendo games in the top 10.

And a tiny correction, if the list of games you cited were in regards to last gens top selling 'standalone' games, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 sold 3 million more copies over Halo 3 on the 360.

We've had this discussion before, but the short of it is PS4, and XB1, while having more non family friendly games, have way more games coming out for them overall than Wii U. So while maybe only 40% of them are rated E, 40% of a much larger pie is still more than 80% of a much smaller one. You choose the games you buy, so M rated games popularity on those systems is irrelevant.

So, you are claiming that for someone who wants to play family-friendly games only it is worth the extra $100-$200 to buy a PS4 or an XBox One to get access to this additional content?

Quote

Except it makes me question how good all of those extra family-friendly games are given that most current XBox and PS owners treat it as second class content at best (with the notable exception of the Gran Turismo family on PS). Even if we put aside sales rankings as a measure the only time I ever hear anyone mention family-friendly games on XBoxen and PSes is in discussions like these. If they truly are superior systems in this regard, you think it would come up more often.

I gotta say every time I point out I prefer the wii u, I get told it is for children and isn't "hardcore" enough, I then get pointed out on all the games I don't play GTA and what not. It seems to be a MAJOR sticking point. Anyways, arguing over how people feel will lead no where.

Buy whatever you want, I'm not trying to change anyone's mind on their favorite system, I'm arguing against the idea that the PS4/XB1 are inherently evil compared to the WiiU because of the games that are available for the. Its a silly premese to begin with but if the WiiU and Wii didn't have such garbage hardware they'd have those games anyway.

Anyways, arguing over how people feel will lead no where.
I've found this a great principle to live by in general.

I agree with you that the systems are not inherently evil, and that people should monitor what games they buy based on how they are led by God or their morals.  However, I could not plus 1 your post because you dogged the Wii's hardware.  You may be right, but I'm emotionally and sentimentally loyal to Nintendo thus I can not condone harsh criticism of it.

On a related note, the defense for the Wii U likely came about because of how the video (which didn't solve the debate but gave one stereotypical representative for each existing opinion) portrayed the Wii.  Though it was humorous, it took a potshot at a beloved console.
