In short, no. If you don't play online games there is zero benefit to xbox live and at the price you are losing money.
These days, Xbox Live Gold has multiple media services, including Hulu+, Netflix, an ESPN app, and more.

It was recently announced that people spend more time in the media apps than they do actually playing games. I'd encourage you to do some research and see if any of the apps appeal to you, because if they do, you'll likely get your money's worth. Plus, there are at least a few games that can be played online that are family friendly.
