And in this corner standing only roughly 4" tall and thin as card board is a Redemption card, while in the other corner towering over the card we have the Wii with its nunchucks....who will be standing and who will be left in the dirt...only time will tell... ::)

wii = free online multiplayer, millions of players. redemption = no.

Redemption has free online multiplayer, but only with dozens (although they're generally nicer than a randomly chosen video gamer)

my statement was free online multiplayer and millions of players...coupled together, redemption doesnt compete next to the wii.

also, i find the wii community to generally be much safer and friendlier than the other 2, as 1) you must know the person personally to be a friend, 2) you cant even talk together in most wii multiplayer games, and 3) most of the wii demographic are harmless little kids.

I used to be more into video games when I had guys who would regularly come over to my house and play them with me.  I always stayed 1 system behind the curve, which saved a ton of money.  So when everyone else was playing SuperNintendo, I bought a used Nintendo (which I later sold for about the same amount I paid for it).  When everyone else was playing the Sega Dreamcast, I bought a PS1 (which I played for 10 yrs until it died).  When everyone else was playing the Wii, I bought a PS2 (which I play now on occasion).  However, nowadays I don't really have anyone who comes over to play video games anymore, so I don't plan on investing in a Wii or Xbox.  Besides, once Project Natal comes out, no one will be satisfied with a Wii anymore anyway.

On the other hand, it is quite easy for me to stick a deck in my pocket and head over to the guys dorm and play some Redemption.  And I can play it online with people for free (as opposed to Xbox).  So for me, that is the better way to go.

P.S.  On a side note, does anyone know what happened to "adevine" or "divineministry" who started this thread?

ps3 has free multiplayer, as does wii.

i find your videogame tendencies very interesting, i never heard of a person that purposely stays one system behind the current gen. its kinda like, you're 5 years back in time while everyone else is in the present. like time travel. pretty cool. :)

I save hundreds of dollars doing it this way, and I get the same excitement of jumping up to the next system that everyone else does, except that I do it later than them.  I also avoid getting sucked into systems that end up being a bust (Atari Jaguar or Sega Dreamcast anyone?).  And thus far, I've been able to stay backwards compatible (PS2 to PS1) so all my games still work.

I also save hundreds of dollars in games, because by the time I buy them, they are all less than half what they cost new.  And I only buy the very best games, which I can know for sure because they've been tested and shown to be the best.

Really it's a win-win scenario for me :)

yeah, i can see your perspective, as long as you have no qualms about being 5 years behind everyone else. me, i personally have to have the newest thing when it first comes out. im very impatient. :)

one downside i can see to your method, though, is online multiplayer. most online multiplayers for most of the games you will be playing will deteriorate or be non-existent anymore. online multiplayer is a huge thing for me now...so much so, i hardly bat an eye at any game that ships without it.

I am also a generation behind on my consoles, for most of the same reasons that the good professor is.  There are more of us then people realize :)

That one is clean, but I advise you don't leave that one, as 2 or 3 on the site aren't.

I plan on doing this with computer upgrades. No sense in buying the just-released graphics cards, when in a few months, they will probably be half the price. Plus, my system runs everything I've thrown at it thus far, so I have no real need to buy new parts as they come out.

Dang it, I spent an hour looking for that for that one

I also usually am one to stay a generation behind. I got my Wii as a fluke. :-D
