Art has certainly progressed in the last 500 years. It used to be that a painting of a manly-looking woman (womanly-looking man?--whatever you'd call the Mona Lisa) could become one of the most famous pieces of art in the world. Nowadays, you can make something like this, and hardly anyone notices.

Making an auto-Mario program requires only a knowledge of coding. Anyone who understands it can do it. For real art, however, knowing the theory isn't enough. Tapping keys in your office chair with a hot pocket and red bull nearby is a lot lot lot lot easier than wielding brush and tincture upside-down on a huge scaffold, racing against the clock of the drying plaster.
i...didnt say it was art...?
