The Old Republic

I got into the beta last weekend, and it was a blast.  Unfortunately, I had to sign a NDA to play, so I can't talk about details.  However, it was awesome.  What I can say is that I was a smuggler known as "MalcolmReynolds."  Anyone excited for this?  (It also comes out on my birthday, hinthint)

I am beyond excited for this. I've had my preorder set for months, I'm an officer in a guild that's all set up with a council, officers, and members and is going to be auto-loaded into the game by Bioware once they get that far, and I get to play in the next beta weekend so that should be awesome.

I'd be happy to play with anyone that wants to group up and I'll have at least one character each on a Republic server and an Empire server.

A huge portion of what I loved about it was that it was Star Wars.  The opening videos (you can find them on YouTube) made me feel like I was back in the theater.  It's an epic battle between good and evil.

I can't wait for the old republic, I got into the beta last weekend and that was awesome (even though I couldn't play for the first two and a half hours of it because of the entirely stupid way that servers were chosen and queues worked).  I preordered, but I wasn't an early preorder so I'll probably get rather late early access.  Still its going to be awesome, and I can't wait for the beta test weekend where they are letting everyone in.

I will not leave WoW until I have pretty compelling reason to do so.
I am not talking about T2 unless I am explicitly talking about T2. Also Mayhem is fine now somehow!

If the 5.0 preview isn't enough of a compelling reason to get out of WoW while you can, then I don't know what is. No end boss (so less of a sense of progression towards something), pandas as a race (seriously?...........seriously? ??? ), they're changing the talent system AGAIN and making it utter crap (the Cata update wasn't terrible, but this is just ugh), probably other stuff that I'm forgetting.... Blizzard is just continuing to show their true colors of being nothing but money-hungry jerks.

As a side note, is anyone on here going to be in the big beta test coming up later in the month?  Its available to everyone who signed up for testing before 11/11/11.

The email I got was for a generic beta weekend, so I don't know if it's the "big test" or not. =/

5.0 looks awesome. Pandaren have been part of the lore since WCIII, and frankly they're overdue. I love the way they're overhauling the talent system; it will be more like it was in vanilla (options, rather than a set build that everyone has with maybe 1 or 2 points of deviation). I also love that there's no big bad, it will feel more like Vanilla where it's just being in Azeroth rather than a big rah rah about something or other. The pet battling system will probably be fun, and before someone says "WoW is just going to be Pokemans!" cool, I like Pokemon. I also love that it looks like you won't be able to fly at the start of the new areas like in WotLK.

Basically, I like everything I've seen about 5.0 and it will take more than vague hints and "oh yeah, it's star wars" to convert me B)

@Kittens: It says "upcoming beta weekend" and I got it on last Friday. It also says "Additional details for this upcoming test will be announced soon." so I assume it wasn't the one this past weekend.

I love how everyone, even Blizzard, is under this mistaken impression. There will ALWAYS be a "best spec". There are people who have no other purpose in life than to sit there doing calculations and tests with their complicated spreadsheets figuring out which talent increases their dps/hps by 0.0000001 points. No matter how many options you give or take away, whether the list is 6 choices long or 41, there will always be "best" choices. Cata's system didn't change that, this system won't change that. Why do people not realize this?

Huh.  Yup, didn't get the update, drat.  I'd like some more playtime.

Take Polymorph. Say you had the option to talent into making Polymorph either not regenerate, not break from DoT's, or wander toward caster, instead of a talent you either take or don't take to not break from DoT's, then different Mages would do different things with their Polymorph depending on which of the 3 options they took.

From what I've seen, that's what the talent system is going to be like.

And someone would come along and decide that, based on heroic dungeon and raid encounters, Talent <whatever> is the best of those three. Then, any Mage going into a heroic dungeon or raid will be expected to have that talent. Scorn and blame to follow if they don't have it and the group wipes.

I'm not saying it's a good system (it stinks, actually) but that's how it works, and changing the number/nature of choices is never going to fix that (unless the "nature" of the talents is purely cosmetic or non-combat related, in which case what's the point in having them at all since then everyone really would be cookie cutter?).

No, they announced on the official site that they are doing a major stress test later this month, the exact date of which has not been announced, and they are inviting everyone who signed up for testing before 11/11/11.

Same here, Sith Sorcerer, Imperial Agent (gentlemen), and Trooper were all played. I must say, (I don't think this falls under NDA) the choices in the game are amazing.

Man I wish that I had known that people on here were in the last beta test, I didn't get in groups very often because I'm always afraid I'll mess stuff up for people I don't know, and it would have been fun to be in groups more often.

Is anyone planning on participating in the large beta test later this month?  I know I will regardless of the date, and my brother will as long as its not on Thanksgiving weekend.

I'll so be in the huge weekend as long as it isn't this coming weekend (when I'll be recovering from wisdom teeth removal).
