Just about every church is either a Pokestop or a Gym, at least those registered on Google Maps. In fact, so are most non-profit organizations.

Pokemon Go! has managed to bring millions of people to churches' doorsteps.... the Harvest is full. The question now is how churches will handle all this traffic. What will your church do with its 5 minutes?  :preach:

I installed this yesterday just to see what the fuss is about. I've never played a Pokemon game before, though, haha.

Are PokeStops good for something other than just marking landmarks? Because I stopped at a couple on my way to work last night but all they offered me was a slot for like an upgrade or something that I didn't have any of (probably because I'm only level 3, haha). What am I missing?

When you are close enough to a PokeStop, a blue circle symbol will appear. Tap on the circle to enter the stop. A new circle will appear with a picture of the place. Spin this circle with your finger and you will get items like Pokeballs, Potions, and Eggs. You normally get 3 to 6 items per spin. The PokeStops reset every 5 minutes.

We put "Pokestop Here" and then 'Welcome" below that on our digital marquee out front. I have considered putting a mini-fridge out front under our awning, which is steps from where the Pokestop is located, and filling it with water for those who may be walking and get thirsty. What other creative ways have you seen churches use their small windows of opportunity to share God's love with folks?

One thing churches can do is have a Pokemon Go Lure Party.  Lure modules can be activated on a PokeStop. They work like Incense, in that they attract wild Pokemon for 30 minutes. The difference between them, though, is that Incense only works for the user, while Lure Modules work for anyone near the PokeStop. The PokeStop has flowers flowing off it on the map if a Lure Module has been activated  on it. Thus, passerby Go! players will see it and want to stop.

This would give churches 30 minutes per module to try to reach people.  I would treat like any other evangelistic opportunity  (i.e. Harvest Festivals ).

Be careful out there.  I am not too into conspiracy theories but there is just enough logic to the argument to be plausible.

Edit:  Just to be clear, I am pointing at all the the photos and location tracking that the game collects.  The references to "Is it the Jews?" I read as sarcasm and hyperbole.  I am not suggesting blaming Jews for anything malicious or evil.

Location and photo tracking are what makes augmented reality games work. I'll take my chances that the FBI are not tracking all of my moves for sordid purposes. They could just follow my wife's blog to get the same information.  ;)

@uthminister, you could use the Pokemon Lure Party that I mentioned above for a Youth Group event (or perhaps lock-in). That should help draw in their friends that are playing the game.

Interestingly, though, the largest demographic seems to be 20 to 30-year-olds. The Pokemon video games started in 1996, and the card game in 1999, which was 15-20 years ago. Most of the kids from those days are now playing Pokemon Go! This is a demographic that some churches struggle reaching, so perhaps a Singles Pokemon Go Party would be a good idea, too.

Hey, red is da bomb! Little bit biased cause red controls literally all the gyms in my town... And no one can beat us... Except for one guy... One blue guy.... But no yellow. No one in our town is yellow. But literally eveyone is red.

All three teams are well represented in my area. The gyms change hands frequently, which makes it tough to get a lot of coins from guarding them. My team currently controls the two closest gyms to my house. I have my CP729 Pidgeot helping guard one of them, and my CP580 Slowbro (who has a ton of hit points) helping guard the other. The top trainers have 1000-1200 CP Pokemon.

This might be a silly question, but again I'm new to Pokemon games: If I captured my first duplicate Pokemon today, what do I do with the other?

Pidgey 1 (CP 25) HP 15
Air Cutter (4 blue bars) 25

Pidgey 2 (CP 43) HP 18
Twister (5 blue bars) 15

I don't know what the blue bars mean (levels of the ability maybe?) but I'm assuming the number means attack power or something? Higher CP seems better but is it always better even if a higher CP Pokemon has an ability with lower attack power?

Whichever one I decide to go with, what's the best thing to do with the one I don't want?

Browa, at the bottom of the page for each Pokemon is a button that says "Transfer. " You will not be able to get the Pokemon back, but you will earn Stardust and 1 Candy for that species. You will need Candy to evolve. You will need both Stardust and Candy to power up your Pokemon. I would recommend you keep catching duplicates of your current Pokemon because you will earn more experience points, Candy, and Stardust. You also earn 500 XP for evolving. The higher your trainer level, the higher CP Pokemon you will catch.

Thanks again YMT! I saw the Transfer button but wasn't sure what all it did. As far as which to Transfer, should I focus my efforts on the one with the highest CP regardless of everything else or are there more considerations than that?

I would stick with the highest CP, unless they are very close together. You could check your local gyms to see what kind of Pokemon are popular,  then try to find their weaknesses. Also be sure to check the type of attack your Pokemon are using. The "Air Cutter" attack is Flying, while "Twister" is Dragon,  I believe. Variety is usually helpful.

The main company released a statement saying that they didn't mean to have access to so much stuff in people's account also, and that recent update but to bump back the request to basic stuff.

My wife and I play. We longboard around the College here and there are like 10 PokeStops all bunched together.

Also... RED TEAM!
