I hate microsoft.. I really do.

My xbox isn't reading any discs and I have to punch the top of the xbox to get it to read a disc. Any advice on how to fix my stupid box?

I have to. Otherwise it doesn't read the disc. And I'd really rather not pay 140 dollars or however much it is to send it in for a repair.

it could mean your laser is starting to fail. how long have you had the 360? the laser just might need cleaning too, but that would require taking the unit apart which i wouldnt recommend unless you wanted to void the warranty, if it is still within one.

alternately, sometimes turning the unit into its alternate position (if you had it vertical, turn it horizontal; if it was horizontal, turn it vertical) will fix any disc read errors.

Yeah.. I sorta figured as much. I tried using a lens cleaner cd but it didn't work so I think I'm just going to have to buy a new system..

And I've tried turning it too but it didn't change anything.

I concur. My old 360 finally kicked the bucket and I just upgraded to a slim rather than paying to get it fixed. Bigger hard drive, dedicated port for the Kinect (if I ever get one), HDMI port; best gaming decision I ever made.

I agree that the Wii should be first on everyone's list.

what you can do since your hands are pretty much tied in terms of getting it fixed reasonably or entertaining the possibility of anyone buying it (gamestop wont buy it of course, and im doubtful used videogame stores will either), is sell the 360 on ebay in its current state. even though it has a disc read error, there are people out there that will still pay for it since they can usually fix it themselves (thus getting a good bargain) or use it for parts. a quick search yielded a couple 360's that have ended recently going for about in the $40-$50 range, so i consider any return on a broken item and applied to a newer item a good thing. might be your only option to look into.

The new slim models aren't compatible with the older model hard drives, right? I knew with the older models when a friend of mine had his 360 kick the bucket, he just went out and got an arcade model and just used his old hard drive on the arcade. At least I think that's what he did... but I suppose that really isn't helpful since they've come out with the slim models and I'm sure they use a different sized hard drive and such. I wish you luck on selling the broken model if that's what you end up dong though. That definitely would be better than nothing.

I'm just gonna end up repairing it. I don't have a ton of money so I can't really buy a new one..
