For anyone who doesn't know, SSBM stands for Super Smash Brothers Melee.  Does anybody play? Who's your main? Any technical abilities?

Dude, All the smash games are played competitively at this point. If I ever get to play I main marth. I have absolutely no technical abilities however so I stick to Pokémon/card games.

Falco or CPT. Falcon. Roy is good but too slow for my taste. Cpt. Falcon has his problems and I've started liking him less and less but I'm still competent with him. Fox is fast but he's just not favorite. I find his play style very different from Falco. Otherwise some other fun ones are MG&W, Luigi, and Kirby is bad but very fun. I'm still having difficulties using wave dashes and wave shines effectively but that will come with time. I don't do any kind of competitive stuff though.

I play SSBBrawl. I either use pit, Marth, or Ike. I just like the sword guys. they are the most fun. and the specials are just beast if you can get them. especially if you are close with marth and Ike.

Marth is the man in Melee.
I am not talking about T2 unless I am explicitly talking about T2. Also Mayhem is fine now somehow!

Marth is the man in Melee.

His attacks are little too weak IMO for how difficult they can be to land. The delay on his normal attack is quite slow compared to some but he can still be very dangerous and strong but he has a very hard time against like fox and peach who are very quick.

My favorite is Pit. I'm usually just a coward (maybe a smart coward? ;)), and I just take off little bits of damage with his bow. At least I'm never the first one out, and I like Pit. Snake is typically dominant when we play.

He got nerfed really hard in Brawl. Meta Knight is the spiritual successor to Marth.

In Melee, his reach, coverage, speed, and almost complete lack of telegraphy make him arguably the best character (alongside Fox and Shiek). Peach isn't even a contender.

Peach is a huge contender. Her high mobility, unlimited items, powerful quick attacks make her very hard to beat. I forgot about Shiek though he's very good. I agree that Marth is unpredictable but his speed his meh and coverage doesn't matter when faster characters sneak in past your guard. If I remember correctly though is that Peach and Marth are in the second tier. As I said before one of Marth's weakness's is his ability to actually kill someone he can harass them quite a bit but when you need to kill them, his killing attacks are too slow and his combo's are hard to pull off. If you manage to land a smash with him you are all set but otherwise he has a tough time.

Luigi is definitely not bad.  His wave dash is the longest in the game; mix that up with dash dances and you'll catch just about anyone on a tech chase after, for example, a down throw.  He can also gimp quite well, if one can master his recovery.  Not to mention his upper cut and the off chance of a misfire to ruin someone's day.  I main with luigi, and he has many, many tricks; easily a very under rated character.  I'm quite technical with him; I've been looking for a tourney, but haven't been able to find any.  The closest one is in Illinois on the 15th, and I'm trying to attend.

The best player in the world right now plays as Peach.  Look up Armada SSBM on youtube.  You'll see why she's such a competitor.

The best player in the world up until about 2008 played as Marth.  Against spacies (Falco, fox), Marth's chain grab is king.  He can also gimp very well, which is another reason Marth is so good.  A good Marth player can tech chase really well after a grab, and can get the infamous 'Ken Combo' to work.

I wasn't aware the meta game continued to change for a half-decade after Brawl was released *shrug*

I meant to say that only Kirby is bad sorry. Haha. I've seen some very good Luigi's including Armada's. Also if you are talking about Mango as the guy who mained as Marth, he played everyone, he didn't really have a main and if he did, it was probably Falco. That's who I saw him do best with whenever I watched him play. Yes Marth's combo's are excellent but they are very hard to intiate with. Yes you will put some massive damage on them but you will need to pull it off at least 4x a match.

Also for some clarification, Jigglypuff is used because she has a pretty easy time countering the faster characters. That's what I've gathered from what I've seen because she will get destroyed by like a DK but will then turn around and be able to beat up on a fox.
