You really should specify in the title and/or first post because abbreviations mean different things for different people. AoE, for example, usually means Area of Effect for me (due to me playing MMOs and the like). ;)

Age of Empires is a fun game but I could never seem to get better at it so I usually lost :(

I disagree. AoE III is the best. I liked AoE IV's inclusion of military ranks and power ups, but the game moves much too slow, even in the "faster" modes.

EDIT:  Oops! Senior moment. I was thinking Civilization. Sorry.

I agree with Daniel that AoE II was the best.

AoE 3's 2 expansions packs are best then II then 3 then I  :police:

and starcraft 2 has owned all RTS games (I think thats the correct term) evar.

AoEII with all expansions is new & sealed at Wal-Mart for $9, but you might find it cheaper on eBay.
