Alpha and Omega (Ruby/Saph Pokemon Remakes)
« on: May 08, 2014, 12:27:16 PM »

Just recently announced were Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire.

Discussion Topic: Does the fact these games use "Alpha" and "Omega" in their titles have any religious significance to those who play?

The target is up. Ready, Aim, Fire

I hope they don't make it like the original games but make it more like Emerald. Dusting off the old XY and 3DS XL and going to catch me some Pokemon! November seems like such a long wait for a Pokemon lover like me though.

Alpha and Omega are the first and last letters in the Greek alphabet and that is why in Revelations they are used to illustrate the neverendingness of God. The games have no religious significance however.

It's not saying that Pokemon is the Alpha and Omega, its just some name that some random guy picked 1000s of miles away. Often we say team Beta or team Sigma it doesn't implie anything it's just the name of a game.

Thank you, Cause I've got some relatives who would misinterpret and "not tolerate" (to put it nicely) such speech and I need to know to tread in such territory.

Hopefully these new games will have some move tutors, since X and Y were pretty terrible about that.

Agreed. Also permanent weather is a thing again! Yay!

Only in battles with pokemon that were incredibly broken already, so no one will allow you to use them in any sort of competitive environment.

I wasn't talking simply about Smogon.  Game Freak itself will have/has banned Kyogre/Groudon/Rayquaza from ranked play over wifi as well as from all vgc tournaments.

I know I am necroing but I fell head first into the pokemon scene and wanted to post meaningful stuff so ha.

Move tutors are not only confirmed but are adding new moves to each pokemon's tutor list.

I know smogon won't, but smogon bans anything that is remotely scary even if it is easily killed if you know how. I hope VGC will and that is the reason for hoopa being a thing, allowing 6th gen caught legends onto teams.

Also... cloud nine still clears weather.

I really hope that they change the gym leader over to VGC style.  It'd be a big change, but if they want their own tournament structure to take off, you gotta put it in game.  Double battles have far more depth, a larger move pool, and a larger pokemon pool (I mean, Pachirisu won worlds, guys. PACHIRISU).  Gyms 1 and 2 can be single battles, 3 and 4 be doubles, and 5-8 will be Bring 6, Choose 4, Battle 2 at a time.

If they make this change, I'll buy a 3DS.

That'd be interesting but I double in the remake it'll happen. That'd be cool for the next game though.

Smogon may be ban happy, but they most definitely do not ban "anything remotely scary".  Talonflame and Rotom-W have dominated the OU meta for months now, but they still haven't been banned.

I just can't wait for Volcanion to come out, because that thing is going to be amazing.

They were the first games to introduce double battles, so I have a little bit of hope.  I am skeptical though.

I wouldn't have hope, especially since GF's goal in making the single player experience does not seem in any way to be to emulate competitive play.

Yes, but talonflame is easily ohko'd if you have a tank, Rotom Wash is a bit harder but I wouldn't call either of them scary.

Ha ha. I hate how that joke appears on non pokemon stuff. It is a valid comment, due to the amount of water in hoenn there are a ton of water pokemon. Anyone else enjoying this so far?
