T2 is pretty much wide open right now. This shows that pretty well.

I have been  toying with the idea of getting into T2, since T1 is going in a direction that I really don't enjoy playing. However, before I try to make a T2 deck, I'd like to know if T2 has the same limited meta problem. Are there only a few (less than 10) viable deck builds if you want to be competitive? Or is there a wider range of deck builds and concepts among the top decks in T2?

You're question is presented in two parts.

I agree with Jordan and Andrew that there is a wide range of deck's that can be built.

However on the concepts assertion, I disagree. While you can pick and choose various colors to play (PG, Gold, Crimson etc) almost all defenses are attempting to do the same thing - Block, use Horses to D2, then play an End the Battle card. Most defenses also have a 'Block small character play something to protect all the lost souls then die' option. Most of the defensive variety comes from which character abilities you are trying to exploit.

Thanks for the thread link. I've avoided T2 because it had a reputation (well-earned in the past) for being a rules-lawyer-y format. However, T1 has become just as much that, and the fact that only maybe 5-6 decks have any chance of competing in T1 has become a huge turnoff foe me. (And yes, I have one of those deck formats that I've tweaked and played.) As a fairly mediocre open deck player, I have no illusions of becoming a top competitor at high levels, nor do I plan to be. (Not enough time to play, for one reason.) But I'd prefer a format where you can try out several different decks and at least provide competition for the other players, and maybe have a chance to place at some of the lower levels.

It's either that, or sticking to booster (which I started out hating, but which has become my favorite format, not to mention the only one in which I am sometimes competitive).
