That was just announced today. Rob posted that they will be tournament-legal for sealed deck ONLY starting June 21st and for everything else July 4th.

It would seem to me that I/J was only legal for sealed, and still couldn't be played in other categories.
If your tournament host said it was legal, then there's nothing you can do about it; I don't think anyone would dispute your championship. In all fairness, it was the first time (to my knowledge) that cards have not been tournament legal immediately after their release. As long as everyone else was told the same thing by the tournament host, then I think you're probably okay.
