David's Bounce House

I am wondering if this offense would be any good in type 2?  The idea is to use Ambush on Ahimelek.  Attack with Wool Fleece active and then CBN bounce the EC when Ahimelek is flipped because David is in play.  Then use Book of the Law to bounce Ahimelek and do it again.  Also can bounce any of the other Heroes so opponent doesn't know who is coming.

My initial offense is 26 cards without dominants or covenants.  Is this viable?  What would be a good defense to pair with it?

David, the Shephered
David, Outcasts' Refuge
David, Heart after God
Ahimelek, the Hittite
Asa, the Upright,
Hezekiah, the Devout
Benaiah (FoM)
The Mighty Warrior (FoM)
Jonathan, Son of Shimei
Mighty Men
Asahel

Ambush x4
A Soldier's Prayer x3
Bravery of David x3
David's Descendant
David's Proclamation

Throne of David (thinking new because only 2 purple Enhancements)
Wall of Protection
Kerith Ravine (maybe not needed at all?)
May you prosper greatly!

Ha, been awhile since Ambush has seen much play, but I think it could be viable. I think the main problem though is that you would only be able to make the rescue every other turn since you need a turn to bounce and set aside Ahimelek. I guess it's not that big of an issue since you have other battle winners you can use in the meantime, but you could save time by using a defense that has access to a bounce Enhancement like Hypocrisy or Go Away! The latter is probably the better option since Red and Black have some good synergy with their weapons and stuff.

I'm tempted to say that Red/Judges would be better so you could activate Wool Fleece on Gideon to open up your artifact slot, AUtO is a little faster, and you have gold to put in Emmaus Road as a David/Throne tutor. The problem I see though is that Wool Fleece isn't really as strong as it seems. A lot of players keep defense in their hand where they won't be protected until it's too late. After some thought, I think the best option is to run two Forsaken LS and also Faith of Barak so that if your opponent bands, you can just bounce an EC outside of battle and play that to d/c all ECs in battle CBN. You should then also add Joshua, the Conqueror, Faith, Faith of Joshua x2, and probably PoC Captain of the Host (depending on how set you are on Benny's unity) for good measure. Faith is a David tutor and Faith of Joshua is another way to grab Ambush.

I wouldn't worry about Kerith Ravine. There's not much to target Heroes in set-aside except Today in the occasional musician deck. I'm not exactly sure how targetting face-down cards works these days anyway.

You'll definitely want a spare copy of Ahimelek in Reserve with a couple Remnant souls and maybe even a Covenant with Abraham to grab him out. The purple/red Davids are both decent ways to tutor him out of deck or reserve, but Heart After God is probably the best since he can just search for him. I would probably just cut Dave, the Shepherd. Honestly I'm not sure if the duplicate rules with the brigades and stuff allow you to have all 3, but either way you should be fine with just 2. Since Ahimelek will be going out by himself, you'll be leaving yourself vulnerable to dom blocks, so it would probably be good to run some combination of You Will Remain, Complacent LS, and Lacking Prophecy. You Will Remain is a great target for Book of the Covenant in Reserve, so if you run that you could also toss an Oath of Purity in there as another bounce option, plus it's just a great card.

The 3 different Davids  (or at least those 3 Davids) are not legal in T2. For a unique character, you can have up to 1 copy with 3+ brigades, 2 copies with 2+ brigades (including the potential 1 with 3+ brigades, so either 2 2-brigade or 1 2-brigade and 1 3+-brigade), and 4 copies with 1+ brigades. David, God's King would be legal as a 3rd (and 4th) copy, since he's 1 brigade.

It's the same idea as the various "1 per 50" variant rules under the T1 Other Rules, but it's proven kind of hard to simply explain in general.

I think I got it. You can't have both LoC David's because together they have 3 brigades which means you can only have 1 card since they are unique.

Thanks for all the advice! Gives me a lot to consider.

I realized the every other turn thing later so I was still thinking of ways to not get "stuck" and be able to use Ahimelek each rescue.  Right now I think I could make it work if I alternate between Mighty Men and Ahimelek as the Ambushed hero, or even not Ambushing Ahimelek at all and instead always using a hero that can band to him.

The more I think about this, the more I think Joshua is the best hero to Ambush because he lets you switch into whatever hero is the best compared to what they block with but I'm thinking Ahimelek would be that guy a lot of the time.

No, you can have the 2 LoC Davids together. Each card is only 2 brigades, and you can have 2 copies of a 2 brigade David.

Basically, duplicate cards are subject to the deckbuilding rules twice - individually, and as a group.

My go to example is Melchizedek, since he exists with 3, 2, and 1 brigade.
In T2, you can 1 CoW (blue/purple/teal) Melchizedek. But since he's the same card as other Melchizedek, he also counts towards your dual and single brigade Melchizedek. So you could add 1 PoC (purple/teal) Melchizedek, so you have 2 that count towards your "2-brigade" Melchizedek. Then you could add up to 2 single brigade Melchizedek, but they're not as useful as the first 2.

OK, that part does not make sense to me.  Why would you be able to have another Melchizedek if 1 has 3 brigades.  At that point you are subject to the 1 per deck rule aren't you?

The 1 per deck rule applies to 3-brigade cards. The other Melchizedek aren't 3 brigades.

The same thing does apply in T1, but there are so few 100+ card decks it rarely matters. Cloud Moses (3 brigades) still allows you to have a single-brigade Moses (LR, Wa, G/H) once you get to 100 cards.

Hmm, so then you can have both Heart after God and Outcasts' Refuge at the same time, and since they are each 2 brigades, you cannot have any more Davids regardless of how many brigades?

You could still have up to 2 mono-brigade Davids on top of that.

Consider this my petition to change the rule to 2 per deck for unique characters.
