I would like to hear suggestions, and reasons, for what is a top defense that is 16 cards. It can't be Herod's though.
-
I think a Philistine defense could fit in 16 cards. Not sure, though.
-
Whenever I hear the word defense I auto-suggest pharisees.
-
Pharies, Magicians, Sads, Philies well pretty much anything can fit in 16 cards depending on what you want to do with the defense.
-
rofl
-
Phillies with a Sadd splash for inish.
-
rofl
Try to post something positive, or your suggestion please, not just a rofl b/c I said no Herod's. And just a heads up, I said no Herod's b/c I am using them already and have 16 spots open on defense. Please refrain from posting things like that.
Anyway I appreciate all of the input, but it is all the same- Phillies/Pharisees. I thought about Magicians, they look solid for 16 cards, Sads don't seem strong enough IMO. Any others?

Well there is always the option of just a "mono" color defense with no theme in it I have done this before with Pale Green, Black and Grey with some success.
-
I have a 16 card Kings of Judah defense that works pretty well. It just has brown in it, but it has both ways to auto block and ways to recur enhancements, as well as natural CBN. I like it very much, although it doesn't really complement the offense I paired it with. It also could probably be more or less cards if you change your deck.
-
Demons/Phillies works wonders. ...and very few enhancements required.

I would be interested in seeing what a phillie/demon defense looks like. Care to elaborate more?

This is the 16 card defense used in the National winning Teams decks. It should translate fairly well into T1-2P also.
Philistine Outpost
The Gates of Hell
Philistine Garrison
The Twelve-Fingered Giant
Philistine Armor Bearer
Gomer
Seven Sons of Sceva
King of Tyrus
Prince of this World
Prince of the Air
Fallen Angel
Wandering Spirit
Bringing Fear
Land Dispute
Deafening Spirit
Worshipping Demons

The best defenses are ones that work well with the offense...so what's your offense?
Otherwise, I'd agree that Phillies/Demons is the way to go for that size of a defense.
-
Does that 16 card "defense" include dominants and evil arts?
If so, Pharisees.
If not, there are tons of options.
-
Id go with Gabes but no Prince of the Air. another orange card- Worst than the First?
I would like to see a decklist of the brown D that Bubbleboy was talking about. Persians/Gallows/Plot IoJ for the Temple.
-
Right, why Prince of the Air? Were you expecting lots more silver than usual?
-
TSA or a good Capitan band can kill that defense if Outpost and The Princess Bride guy are killed.
-
Both of which are warrior class.
-
Try looking at Babylonians. They didn't really get any help from Disciples, but Neb is still (in my opinion) the best evil character out right now. There's a lot of different strategies to look at, and they work well with Heretics and Magicians.
-
The problem with Neb is that he gets shut down by Naz.

Look at the defense of last year's 3rd place type 1 2 player deck. ;)
Thanks for all the suggestions guys.

I don't use Persians, because they generally require more cards, particularly Lion's Den and/or Media sites. It can still work, but it's better with more cards IMO.
Here's the decklist of my Kings of Judah defense:
Ming Manasseh
King Amon
King Rehoboam
King Zedekiah
Uzzah
Gomer
Complainers
Foul Spirit
The Amalekites' Slave
Korah's Rebellion
Shimei's Malicious Curse
Wickedness of the Tenants
Dungeon of Malchiah
Stiff-Necked
Gibeonite Trickery
Gates of Jerusalem
The two most noticeable missing cards are probably Image of Jealousy and Haman's Plot. I don't include HP because I don't feel it's worth it without Gallows, and I took out IoJ because it conflicted with a card or two in my offense, but you could probably take out TAS for one of those if you want. This defense works surprisingly well for me.

I like both of these small defenses. This has given me an idea for a new deck. Thanks Tyler for starting this thread!

Who was that maybe YOU!!! ;D
Except your defense was also Abom which helps a lot.
-
The best small defense is splash.

I'm in a toss up between a brown Persian defense, and Gabe's suggestion of orange/Phillies. Originally the defense was orange/Phillies, but I switched it around. I like having Herod's to withdraw hero's and brown Persians to set aside hero's. It's not only a lot of fun, but it constantly keeps hero's set aside/captured/out of battle, all using just the SA's on my EC's.
