Romans defense

I heard a while ago that if you want to run Romans competitively you should use magicians with them.  Is this still the case or are there other options that make Romans more viable?  I was thinking maybe Pharisee's.  What say you all?

Romans don't need any backing, especially with Pontious Pilate

Pontius Pilate is only an average card, nothing special. Romans don't need support though, they just need space.

Demons and Magicians. Specifically, Manasseh, SWS, and the N.T. Magician that's not Damsel or Elymas.
I am not talking about T2 unless I am explicitly talking about T2. Also Mayhem is fine now somehow!

Pontius Pilate

The more i playtest this card the more i like it. Especially in a more hand control deck, he makes a big impact. probably more of a type 2 card where hand control can really be implemented.

Plus, he can hold chariots and horsies for a play next and he works with Denarius wich is a plus.

I actually don't use Pontius Pilate because some of the best enhancements don't work on him, and his SA only works once.

I use him because he is a large non-royal character who has a decent ability, but I usually only block when I have a CM, and he only blocks once a game if it is going well. I certainly would never put him in a chariot.

Agreed.

Chariot usually goes on Augustus, Galba, or Vitellius.

either Discard 3 and D2 off heavy taxes, or discard 2 and draw a ton off V.

Augustus or Galba for me. Vitellius is the last option. I try to only put it on him when I really am feeling the hand clog.

I'm not sure what I go for, actually. I don't play defense in t1. Or t2.
