Rate my Type I deck please?

Alright, I have a Type I with 105 cards in it. I think it's good. I have a total my totals are that 29 of 75 "fighters" i guess you'd call it are either evil or heroes, with the remaining 46 being enhancements. All my evil characters are pink and black brigade and all my heroes are silver and yellow brigade, with some multicolored enhancements thrown in. Is this a good balance? Let me know. Thanks!  8)

Ignore Caleb's negativity and cookie-cutter deck. You can make your deck however you like, especially as a new player. Could you break down the numbers of characters and enhancements a little more (like by brigade)? Any specifics about names would be helpful.

We'll get you where you need to be in no time.  ;D

Some advice:

Try not to make your deck bigger than maybe 70 cards at first.

Your enhancements ratio is currently around 2 enhancements per character. You want to bring that down a little. Most "good" decks tend to have an almost equal number of characters and enhancements.

Good luck! Oh and try this for some help

I have a question. Aren't you supposed to have lots of enhancements for your characters, that way they can win?

yes, but it really stinks when you have a lot of enhancements with no characters to play them on. :)

I also agree that smaller decks are good.  I would recommend 56, but 63 works ok too.  The reason smaller decks work best is because you draw your best cards faster.  Especially as a newer player, you don't have a huge collection of great cards.  Why not draw them 90% of the time instead of 50% of the time and instead drawing not so great cards.

Slightly off topic, but how long has it been since a deck >56 won Nats?

Also, I'm not sure what you mean by pink.  There isn't a pink brigade (yet).  Also, the double lost soul counts only as 1 lost soul when you build your deck.

Have fun!

Well that makes sense. And hey, I happened to buy about 70 booster packs, so I think I have some good cards  :)

Well for the brigade color, isn't there red and pink? Or is it just red and light red?  ???

ah, Caleb gi.  Red is the good brigade, and crimson is the evil brigade.

Sweet!  That's great.

One helpful thing to do now IMO is to post the entire deck.  Here is an example of what a posted deck looks like:
http://www.cactusgamedesign.com/message_boards/index.php?topic=13952.0

This allows everyone to comment on your deck and suggest cards to put in/take out.  This really helps your deck progress.  You can see from the link I posted how that happened on my deck.

Probably the easiest way to do this is to use RTS (redemption table simulator)  In the deck editor, you can create a deck summary that works pretty well (unfortunately, i sometimes messes up however).  That will pre-format a deck summary you can post here if you want.

Sounds good. I tried downloading the simulator before and it said it had an error and had to close. I'll try fixing my deck now.

(Oh, and thanks for letting me know pink is crimson. lol. I always wondered why cards said "crimson" brigade. lol)  :D

RTS is definitely not a error free program.  However, this guide should help:

You have about 80 cards then? That's a good start. Getting it down to 50-70 will help immensely.

I rate it illegal. You can only have 56 cards with 7 ls.

Honestly though, it seems you are pretty new so I am going to let you in a secret. Numbers usually don't win battles, but special abilities always do. Unless you have some awesome scheme I am not seeing.

Oh, oops, sorry didn't see that. Well, how would that not work? It could win any battle.

If you have big numbers your opponent can play anything they want and yo can't stop them

Hi John, and welcome to the forum (a bit late).

I see that you are a new player and you have really jumped in (getting on the forum, buying a bunch of booster packs, and already seeking advice).  You have the makings of a great player.

Let me take you through a typical progression of players.

Stage 1 - "the bigger the better" Players quickly learn that the bigger guy wins the battle so they make decks with as many big guys as they can and as many big enhancements that they can.  (example: Angel decks)

Stage 2 - "the pen is mightier than the sword" Players learn that their huge 10/10 character can be instantly killed by a 1/1 character with an enhancement that says to "discard" him.  So they make either add a bunch of "negating" enhancements in their decks to stop those from killing their big guys, or they make decks with all little guys so that they can play the "discarding" cards first.  (example: FBN decks)

Stage 3 - "you can't touch this" Players learn that there are some cards and characters that make those "discard" type abilities so that they can't be negated.  So they make decks with little characters and those so that they can't be stopped.  (example: Splash decks)

Stage 4 - "homey don't play dat" Players learn that if they can ignore someone before the battle begins or be protected, that the other player has to just sit and watch them take lost souls.  (example: The Garden Tomb and Z-temple decks)

Stage 5 - "the best of all possible worlds" Players learn to assimilate parts of each of these into a cohesive whole which is greater than the sum of its parts.  At this point they are ready to win at all levels and inspire all those who play them.  (example: Gabe decks)
