New Deck: Tomb of the Chosen
« on: December 05, 2009, 07:07:50 PM »

OK, I'm wanting to see if this deck would be better for 2player or multiplayer.  I'm thinking multi because of the lack of defense, but it did OK in the two games I played with it earlier today.  Losing one and winning one.  Basically, I've noticed that many current decks do not account for strategies that were prevalent two or more years ago (mostly FbtN and choose blocker) so I decided to bring back good old choose the blocker with a side of Garden Tomb.  I'd like to try and get it down to 50 cards

You're gonna get a lot of trouble with a speed deck... I mean you really can't block much. This would probably be a good deck in multi-player though.

Its not really designed for a long game so the number of blocks is just enough to get by long enough for the offense to do its thing.

Is this the deck that I played against earlier today? It worked really well but you had no characters to hold them off. Just for your CtB thing. Other than that, it's pretty good

Yeah I don't see you making a single block other than christian martyr, yet the deck isn't as fast as speed. You also have only 50 cards, meaning you'll draw more ls than a 56 card deck. That's gonna pose problems.

Unholy Writ and Magic Charms both provide blocks.  Son of God can also provide a block with the Shuffler.  Burial and 2-liner.  That's a handful of blocks.  And there are 56 cards.  Did you even look at the deck or read what I wrote?
May you prosper greatly!

Hmm... I like the concept, here's how I think you can get down to 50.

Cut Mayhem - I love Mayhem, but its a risk becuase almost all your cards are important in a 'Speed/Fast' deck.

Cut Chariot of Fire - So many other Arts that you want to have up, you have 12 heroes, and in a pinch Midwives can recur some of them.

Cut Temple Veil - This one is iffy, you have two site access still if you cut it, So consider this a maybe, I just think you have so many arts.

Cut Bronze Laver - I feel like you have to few evil to make this really worth your while, especially considering you need those characters to help with your CTB

Cut Grapes - If all goes well you'll be leading most of the game, so all this is going to do most of the time if give your opponent another shot.

Cut Micah - You'll lose before you ever redraw anything he puts back in.

I'd try to get some more speed in there - Maybe cut Hur + Gifts for the teal set asides. (I feel they are far superior, and don't require a potential wasted rescue.

Both games I played so far I've used Mayhem to great effect.  Due to the fact that I'm heavy on cards that go in territory, it let me get down to 1 and 2 cards each time to gain 4 and 5 cards.

Hmm, I think I'd cut the Site before I cut this because it doesn't seem like people use any other Artifact discarders besides DoN.

I actually don't have Gifts, and I was trying to remember why I wanted Hur in there without Gifts...

OK, I cut it down to 51.  Took out Grapes, Hur, Micah, Bronze Laver, Ends of the Earth, and Midwives.  Put in Benaiah.

I am probably the last person to give deckbuilding advice but here goes.......

I think, with Lampstand of the Sanctuary out there, we will see more artifact discard in the enhancement realm. I know I am putting at least one in every deck I build now. It might be wise to consider this. If I were running a site deck, I would put at least 2 artifact destroyers in there because you have artifacts for OT and NT heroes for access.

Just MHO

I'm trying to provide helpful criticism. I don't think this is enough of a defense to last, considering your deck doesn't draw all that many cards. You don't have to take the comment, but then saying I didn't even read the deck or your comments? That's just rude.

Unholy Writ and Magic Charms both provide blocks.

But what about against people who can't be captured like Ahimaaz and when UW is up, angels in battle too?

The only person who I've seen playing full on angels is me, but yes angels would walk right through this deck.

One, you said you only saw one block with Christian Martyr.  None of the top players would say that seeing the other blocks I listed.
Two, you said the deck only had 50 cards while, at the time, it had 56 and I specifically said that it had 56.  If you had read what I said then you made an obvious mistake.
Third, telling me there's a lack of defense when I already said, "I'm thinking multi because of the lack of defense," doesn't really help all that much.

If you don't want me to question your advice then don't say things that are clearly false and that make it appear that you did not read through the deck.

Sean, you asked for an opinion of whether it should go in multi or two player. I said multi player because of the lack of defense. Then you say:
Third, telling me there's a lack of defense when I already said, "I'm thinking multi because of the lack of defense," doesn't really help all that much.
I'm pretty sure I was just commenting on what you said at the beginning of the thread, that you were trying to decide if it should be multi or two player. Sorry for trying to help. Bottom line: you don't have to be so rude towards someone who is taking time to give you advice.

Being defensive just makes you both look ridiculous.
I am not talking about T2 unless I am explicitly talking about T2. Also Mayhem is fine now somehow!

this deck is better catered towards multiplayer (some of us would even say its a bit defense heavy). also, tgt is nigh-useless in this deck, for you have 5 different evil brigades of your own.

OK, I cut it down to 51.  Took out Grapes, Hur, Micah, Bronze Laver, Ends of the Earth, and Midwives.  Put in Benaiah.

Hur is good even without gifts, because you force your opponent to shuffle in their hand and randomly draw out more cards (including LS's).  I would definitely reccoment getting a copy of Gifts with hur, but that isnt the only good reason to put him in a deck.

Right now, the only person you can play search on is Joanna without it being negated because beniah is not a prophet that I know of.  If you want more FBTN I would through in Blessings and Transfiguration (and switch out Benniah for Moses).

I agree that using Tomb and so many brigades is a bit counter productive.  I would focus it down to two lesser used brgades in multiplayer.  Keep a king or two and then try to use magicians within that same brigade. (Try King Basha and Elah and use the egyptian magicians) that would limit you to just one or two brigades, thereby keeping it much more likely that TGT will work.

Personally I like acess sites because then I can use the artifact slot for something else... But that is just personal preference

This deck needs Captured ark for Multiplayer!  With any luck you can get your captured Ark Shuffled back in to re-use again!  ALso LUG can be usefull since most of yoru guys are gonna die anyway, why not use them to snipe an artifact that may be hurting you (like HHI or Golden cow)

I think this deck has a lot of good features in Multiplayer, but TGT in Multiplayer is very hit and miss.  It really depends upon the defenses you encounter.

Here in Ohio, we often play with creative Defenses.  Autoblocks and standalones are great, but even better is using nergal and Nebby's dream with about 8 babs in play.  yeah, you can obliterate someones offense or defense that way.  last year my state and regional winnign deck ran with 12 assorted heros and I had 9 of them get captured in 2 different battles that I wasn't even involved in.

its like dominant flow...only worse.

I did that in a type 1 multiplayer here in Wisconsin at the last tourney we had. Myself and another person both had Babs defense, and I used Head of Gold and ended up capturing 8 heroes. I pretty much cleared everyone's offense except my own. It was awesome :P
