Wall of Protection?

In reading a lot of these forum posts and perusing the current top decks, I seem to be noticing a distinct lack of Wall. Is banding not really a thing anymore? I remember when Wall was in basically every deck ever.

Banding is still big, but Wall is more of a 'sideboard' card, if Redemption had one. It has it's niche uses, but there are far too many more cards in Redemption that deserve that slot in a T1 deck that actually advance your gamestate.

With a lot of recent card abilities, Wall has become more of a liability than a help.

For example, if you have Wall of Protection and begin a rescue attempt with a non-giant-slayer Hero, your opponent can block with Goliath infinitely without needing to play any enhancements due to Wall of Protection stopping you from being able to present a new Hero.

Two reasons in particular I think...

1--the Goliath ruling

2--people trying to trim their decks. They see Wall as a card that may or may not help so they cut it and hope it doesn't come back to bite them.

I'm very behind on the Redemption times, so forgive me, but what Goliath ruling? I'm not even sure what the new Goliath does tbh.

Since he returns Heroes and cannot be negated, there's nothing you can do to stop the return. Then, since Wall prevents your characters from being brought into battle by an opponent, you are restricted from putting a new Hero into battle from territory so Goliath wins unopposed unless you have a Hero in hand.

Holy crap, that's insane. I'm glad Goliath finally got a worthy reprint.

It is seen a lot more (in my experience) in T2 than in T1, because there is more room, as well as usually a lot more characters in play that could be targeted. In T1, players usually don't put too many characters down (at least not ECs) for various reasons, including banding. There are also usually only 6-7 ECs in a deck. As for Heroes, most decks don't have defenses that will harm their own Heroes if they get banded to, and since most offenses have various ways of doing similar things, then whether the person bands to your Captain/Daniel/King David/etc. or their own, it doesn't matter enough to use up the card slot.

Also, it should be noted that you are still allowed to bring characters into battle from hand to face Goliath. But if there are no Heroes in your hand, Wall can certainly be a liability. I recently won a T2 Multi game where my opponent that would have won was blocked by a Goliath with Wall up, and he couldn't do anything.

Right, I forgot about that clarification, thank you!

So what im seeing, Wall is a card you want to play against one of the starter decks, right? Or what about replacing it with a set of remover cards (bigger usage) and posing it goliath with a mill deck?

Wall I have seen is rarely used. I run a high banding defense, and use wall for my offense, judges, since I have some of the Samuel deck cards, and it has gotten very annoying to have my opponent band to them. Wall is not as useful against the new starter decks since they only have intra banding, not inter banding. They band to other characters in the deck, but not a generic band like in the E and F decks spirits. I use a mill deck, and almost always there is no room for cards other than Egyptians, and I occasionally put in Greeks for the abom with Samaritans. Heroes in hand I am not seeing as much, unless it is Gideon because of angel under the oak. There is a lot more protect fortresses now, and that limits the need for heroes in hand less, so people put other cards in hand like enhancements.

Delilah and Unclean Spirit can both band to your opponent's ECs...

Yes.  When a card says "any hero" or "any evil character" that's exactly what it means....ANY! When I first started playing, I was stumped at how my opponent could band to my own character.  When I I was told that wording is pretty much everything, I saw it was true.  Which is why the old Son of God couldn't rescue the NT only or /4 or greater lost souls.  Son of God doesn't have any of those identifiers.  So, hence, the new SoG "Negate and rescue any lost soul" has been created.
