Title: Isaiah and Purple Kings
Post by: dermo4christ on April 06, 2012, 05:27:32 PM
Question for all of you....I'm working on a new deck for the RTS.  I don't have all these cards but i think it will be fun to use them.  Isaiah's one ability states to protect purple kings from opponents.  Is that ability ongoing like AUTO's is for Gideon?

Yes, protect is an ongoing ability.

so all the purple kings would be "bulletproof"?

Yes, the wording is exactly the same, and it is also CBN so pretty much the same protection given to bullet-proof Gideon is afforded to purple kings while he is in battle (that is, they are protected from opponents' cards).

I agree, except Isaiah doesn't actually have to be in battle. He's CBN, so even if he is returned, his ability is still working if he leaves battle (via discard, Goliath, etc.)

Sorry, I didn't mean to put that "while in battle" part, just meant by that that he had to enter battle for it to work.  In this way, again, he is basically exactly like AuTO and Gideon (as AuTO can be in territory after activating too).

so just for clarification.....Isaiah goes into battle and all my purple kings are out....i think i have 6 or 7 out.....they are all bullet proof from that point in time for remainder of the game....even if Isaiah is defeated?

Just for that phase.

Instaposted,  just for the remainder of the battle phase.

The way you utilize the bulletproofness of your kings is to band Hezekiah to Isaiah, making Hezekiah bullet proof.

but not just Hezzy though....all of them would be protected even if they weren't in battle...."Protect purple Kings from opponents."

They would be protected from say WoS, but if you want the protection to work in battle you have to have some way to band them in.

WoS? ....well then if that's the case how come when AUTO is not in battle Gideon is constantly protected?  At the last PA tourney I was at, my opponent played Gideon and AUTO and he kept telling me that Gideon was constantly bulletproof eventhough AUTO wasn't in battle.  If I'm not mistaken, AUTO's ability says Protect Gideon from opponents.  Isaiah has Protect purple Kings from opponents.  If the purple Kings are only protected when Isaiah is in battle, then Gideon should only be protected while AUTO is in battle.  I'm sorry guys.  Maybe I'm not understanding.  Someone please explain so I can understand this more.

...I have no idea what you just said, sorry ;)  I think someone was explaining wrong if you got the idea that it is "ALL THE TIME EVER HAHAHA!", because it is not.

AuTO or Isaiah enter battle.  Their abilities now activate.  For the rest of the battle, no matter what (because they are CBN), those cards are protected (all Gideons or all Purple Kings, respectively).

This means that if they play Wrath of Satan, as long as the ability activated, even those protected heroes in territory (including your opponents'!) would be protected from it.  Period.

After the battle, that protection is gone.  It is not a "while this card is in play" ability.  It only lasts the battle.  But it is absolute during that battle.

Does that help?

Yes it helps.  I thought it was only in battle.  The person I was playing in a tournament would bring Gideon out all the time and said he was bullet proof.  I didn't think that was true.  Thanks all!

If you play with a lot of purple kings, use gathering of angels on your Isaiah, you should have at least one angel in an Isaiah deck to play it off, then you're not dependent on the Hezzy band and you can bullet proof any of the kings you want that turn so long as you can keep Isaiah alive. Once he hits discard he loses the band ability.

yep i have an angel in there.  And i forgot I could put Isaiah aside with that......that's awesome! So, then he can band to any of my purple kings! booyah! Nice.  If I get time tomorrow, I'll post my deck to see what you guys think....I may be taking some cards out for other cards in....I'll post.

I wouldn't. Also to answer ur question on why AutO protects Gideon is because the effect is still active until the end of the phase. After the Battle Phase Gideon is no longer protected.

Switch Abel for the new Aaron and that will solve your problem. You still get a green prophet and you have a High Priest.

If you add Aaron, you might as well throw in Moses too.

I modified my above deck post.....used some of your suggestions and added some cards of my own to make a 63 card deck....let me know your thoughts.

Suggestion 1, cut a LS and 12 other card.

You probably do not need all of your purple enhancements. You could take out Prosperity,Testing Solomon's Wisdom, and Haman's Plot Exposed. And Add AoCP.

Agreed. Any purple deck needs AOCP. Also, I use purple/green and it shouldnt be more than 56 cards. I made my deck that many cards once, and couldnt ever get out Isaiah or Isaiahs Call.

Authority of Christ non promo is still good if you use reach of desperation and then after you interrupt the battle draw and then your next enhancement can be AOC. But if you have it, use the promo because if your opponent blocks with king of tyrus the promo cant be negated.  ;)

Very true.  And I did infact add it to my online deck.  I don't have this deck in real life (I only have a few of the cards in my deck post), but I have been trying it out online and it seems to work well, eventhough I haven't won.  But I have done better as of late.
