Help with Texas metagame

I have a friend who used to play up here in Ohio but moved to Dallas a few years ago.  He has most of the cards up through priests but hasn't played since.  I'm looking to build a deck for him so he can get back in the game.  any suggestions?

Teal isn't as good thanks to Disciples.  He missed the whole TGT era, now things are more mixed.

FBTN forever.

Actually, FooF, RoA, and Disciples have changed the meta so much, it's unlikely he'll be able to without buying a tin or two.

true, i vaguely referenced that win strat recently as being largely unnoticed with very few counters that are mained right now, so it would completely own in todays metas if someone built it.

Naz kills Kir. Therefore, I have found myself adding Kingdoms of the World quite often now. I was a little worried about running into CtB in T2, but I think a steady dose of Darius Decree should stop that.

Sorry I didn't have time to fully explain in my first post.  He doesn't want to spend money to get the last 4 sets but he is willing to spend money to get specific cards he needs.  Which is why he wants me to build him a decently winning deck so he can just buy the cards that he is missing to build it.

Since he is going to start with only 1 deck, I was thinking to avoid all offense or defense decks.  Those are great sometimes but it is not as much fun if you are playing against the same type.  I am aiming for something that will do decent against most anything he could face.  I think I will also avoid more complex combo decks since he hasn't played for 5? years.

So one of my thoughts is a mixed offense with some of the stronger battle winners (Zeal, AoC, He is Risen?, 2 Bears, etc.) and a defense that focuses on hiding the lost souls (Hormah, Death of Unrighteous, that Pharisee one, Divination?, etc.).

Any thoughts on that, other suggestions, or info on what he would face in Dallas would be nice.

Splash offenses are awful now.
I am not talking about T2 unless I am explicitly talking about T2. Also Mayhem is fine now somehow!

Why?  What are the weaknesses now?  There aren't that many things that punish you for having multiple good brigades.

It's not that you get punished for having many brigades, it's that what used to be reliable battle-winners are now maybes. If you run a splash offense and expend Zeal, AoCP, AotL, and Trumpet Blast and all it does is Discard four cards from a mono-colored Defensive player's hand, you're in big trouble.

+1 Polarius
With the arrival of the new Disciples set in todays metagame, players are finding that there is more interaction in the battle phase. Be ready for a true fight when trying to rescue that lost soul. The one exception would be Thaddeus. A character that protects all cards from the blocking Evil Character. He is included in the newest form of a speed deck including Fishing Boat, Matthew, and Four-Drachma Coin.

As far as I'm aware, we don't really have a playgroup that meets weekly. But our tournaments are in Dallas, the next being on November 20th.

What categories are being played?  I don't think he'll be able to buy cards and get his deck together by that date.

One way would be if you know what the possibilities are for trading for cards for his deck from people in your playgroup.

I'm at a disadvantage here because most of my playgroup doesn't have many disciples cards yet.  They just started getting them last week.

I assume you are talking about the instead cards.  What instead cards will be a problem for his offense?  I'm thinking the offense will have 10 battle winners in addittion to the doms.

Type-1 2 Player, Type-1 Multi-Player, Type-2 2 Player, Type-2 Multi-Player, and Booster are being offered I believe.

The possibilities are great. Between all of us here in Texas, I'm sure we have everything he'd need.

I agree with Lawfuldog. I extend the invite to the Nov 20th tournament. Last months tournament had 6 of us playing
with closed decks(starter decks). This one looks like there will be more of us.
