I've had this deck for awhile but I haven't really been playing Redemption much (due to a lack of tournaments in SE WI lately). I dug it out with my other decks in preparation for the T2 Only (last year they had T1 Iron Man in between rounds so I figured I should prepare for that).
Just wondering if anyone thinks anything should be changed what with the entire TEC set now being out. I know there were some gray cards in the set but since this is specifically a hand control deck I wasn't sure if any of them justified a slot here.
I had forgotten how defense heavy this deck is, I'm not sure there's enough offense to actually work, but if the hand control works as intended they shouldn't have many answers for the offense I do have (in theory, haha).
Any and all constructive advice is welcome! :D

No Emp Nero? Imo I think he's alot better than someone like Pontius Pilate or Mocking soldiers

As I said in the initial post, this is not specifically a Roman deck, it's a hand control deck. Nero does nothing for controlling my opponent's hand. :P

There's pretty much no reason not to use Balaam's Disobedience when playing grey. I think you could cut Proselyte for it. Also, seems like the Retribution Soul would hurt this deck quite a bit.

Immunity just isn't very good. Too many interrupts out there.

Hormah seems like it would fit in here very well. I would add it to push it to 51 without even blinking.

Having played a deck very similar at nat's 2013. (I got my build from Gabe) this deck should stay at 50. Proselyte should stay BD isn't necessary. The switch I would make is drop lions for fearfulness (aw). It's more hand control and look at hand. The shrine to Artemis is an absolute must for hand control today. Shuffle the site holding the hand control soul and re-site again for 2 cards from opponents hand. Not to mention the end game ability of that being absolutely insane.
Personally I'm finding a way to get priests of Zeus and shrine to Artemis into this deck even it means losing wives and HHI

Thanks for the comments everyone! :D

Mmm, I like your thinking. I'll try swapping out Wives and HHI for Priest and Shrine.
Dropping Coliseum Lions worries me that I won't have enough battle winners on defense, but I do like the control aspect of Fearfulness. I'll swap that out for now as well.

I would switch SyoF with RBD. Personally I've never been a big fan of SyoF with Zeb or RTC, and SyoF won't stop Mayhem or the Judges decks. RBD can work with Chorazin too if you want Decree or Shrine up. Shrine is also not a fortress ;)
Also, I would use Lurking over Fearfulness. It's an interrupt and you could potentially add another character to remove a card from their hand again. Very good card for King Menahem.
-
Yeah I've never really liked SYoF, I'll try RBD instead.
I don't know why I thought it was. ;)
Mmm, I do like the idea of that. I'll mull it over, thanks!

I like using Jubilee over Well Reopened.
Also, I am Holy could be another option to swap with 7YoF. Once you end up with Priest of Zeus AND Rain Becomes Dust, they kinda inhibit each other from being effective.

Balaams Disobedience is the best gray battle winner. It should definitely be in here.

Well reopened with shrine and hand control soul is so solid though.
I agree priests and RbD do the same thing however in order for speed counters to work you need to draw them. In this case though shrine pulls priest out and 7 yrsF is way better.
7 years of famine is more about keeping your opponents hand size down then it is about negating draw. RtC still hits on benj or joe. Honestly I wouldn't even consider RbD over 7yrsF especially with Priest. 7 years forces your opponents hand down or forces them to toss a card from hand. RbD is an ability that only limits their draw speed.
I will say I like lurking over fearfulness. The problem is that lurking as well as BD are OT and don't work with entrapping. Entrapping can become an absolute stud in this deck.
-
I think I'll keep 7YoF for now, but I've swapped Wives and HHI for Shrine and Priest, and I've swapped Coliseum Lions for Lurking.
I'll hold off on further changes (unless there's something glaringly missing or wrong) until I can play with this version.
Thanks again for the thoughts everyone!

I agree with keeping 7YoF. It's an extremely nasty card (for your opponent) that has almost no impact on you when played correctly.
It seems like Gamaliel's Speech would be really good in here. Maybe better than Lurking or Fearfulness.
If things are going your way you probably never want to play Mayhem. Either Burial (for the 2 liner), DoN (Writ/Charms hurt your small offense) or Falling Away might be a better choice.
I'm not entirely sold on the Shrine/PoZ combo, but try it out, it sounds fun. When I last played this deck I had The Terrifying Beast in that EC spot and never regretted having him.
-
Those are some very good points. I'll swap Mayhem out for Burial (also good since I'm running Sites to help counter Soul gen from my opponent) to test.
I do think I want to try the Shrine/Priest combo, I'll keep Terr. Beast in mind as a replacement if it doesn't work well, thanks!
I only have one Gamaliel's Speech atm and it's in another of my decks so I think I'll try using Lurking for now but I'll swap that in if it doesn't seem useful.
-
Is that really a combo? Shrine just tutors for priests right?
-
It's a combo in that it's a combination of 2 cards, lol. Not all "combos" accomplish awesome things or are super special. ;)
-
Here's an Idea. What if you added Messenger of Satan (TEC) and Persistent Pestering. If you band to the guy with Namaan's Chariot and Horses you can play PP like you would with Egyptian Magicians.

This is so hit and miss, I tested at 52 with those for awhile and terrifying beast. I never seemed to play it. Messenger helped with draw but I ended up cutting both of them back out in recent testing.
At Nathan,
The shrine combo is about shuffling sites to resite the hand discarded lost soul or the deck discarder. The end game of shrinking to retrigger the hand control is a cost free way to hammer your opponents hand.

If you have the 2-liner, I would add Hormah.
