Title: Are demons competitive?
Post by: joeychips on April 16, 2014, 11:20:06 AM
I am thinking about changing my angel/philistines deck to an angels/demons, should I?

Angels are pretty bad stand alone. Demons, on the other hand, can be very good.

Thank you, what other good brigade should I add to this deck?

Silver tends to work very well with green prophet decks so I would try that.

Most offense themes have an angel or two that can work with them (except maybe OT purple). Some are designed for specific themes (such as the Isaiah or Judges angels) but others are just general support (like the new Gabriel). If you choose an offense that you like you're bound to be able to find some silver that goes well with it.

To stay on-topic and answer your original question, though, demons can be pretty good depending on how you build them. You can mix them with magicians or heretics for fun times, and mono-demons with Gates of Hell can make for a good defense.

What I like to do is have Angels Prophet offence, and a demon's defence. You use your prophets to search for Gates of Hell, Chamber of Angels, and than you use your Gates to discard your whole deck, angel's survive and are recurable, while demons just go into play. This works better for me in type 2, especially since demons are better when you can have 4 of the same kind, however, I am trying to build a 154 card type one deck based on this. That is one combo that works well, and might try it in a tournament soon!

I started using Prophets/Demons myself and its pretty stellar....constant regurge of cards is great! Plus being able to regurge Provisions to choose your demon to block and put it into Tartaros after battle is beautiful! But that's just me....lol!  I do think that it is my new fave!

I think since Tartaros says "your" demon you wouldn't be able to put it there after killing it with Provisions since you don't technically control it but maybe I'm remembering the wording on Tartaros wrong...

You may be thinking of Wandering Spirit (http://redemption.wikia.com/wiki/Wandering_Spirit_(TP)), which says 'your' when referring to the demons.  Tartaros (http://redemption.wikia.com/wiki/Tartaros_(Ap)) says "All demons that holder captures, discards, or has in Land of Bondage are placed in Tartaros..."  So, if you are rescuing and choose one of your own demons to block and win, your card (the hero) still discards a demon.  It is placed in Tartaros.

I think I will stick to philistines because of Three nails.

Because everybody plays that card. ;) Honestly demons are great. My brother has a 154 card demon deck that he's had since Texp and it's lost about 5 games in that time. (Not including timed losses but he hasn't had many of those either.)

You betcha!  I love doing that! Drives my playgroup crazy!

Ha, nope. Wasn't thinking of Wandering Spirit, just couldn't remember what Tartaros said. :P
