Title: What a game! Genesis vs Heroless
Post by: TimMierz on July 25, 2008, 10:03:14 PM
I played a game against 777Godspeed today, and it was quite intense. I was playing with about my favorite deck ever, Genesis and Rome. He had a nasty Crimson Heroless deck. As it started out, I drew a good amount of offense, including my main man Simeon, with Sarah and Rebekah to boot. With Abraham's Servant to Ur and Covenant of Noah in hand, and knowing there weren't any Crimson battle winners that couldn't be interrupted, I was feeling good with Simeon. Jacob was on my side too. Jacob got a territory CM before he could do much, and his Kingdoms got out fast so I couldn't use Obedience of Noah either. Before his Riblah came out, I was able to give Nergal + Horses a swift AotL before he ever entered battle. Simeon was able to get rid of a few cards, like Christian Suing Another and Judas Iscariot, but he gave a surprisingly nasty block. Rehoboam blocked my Simeon, causing my two girls to fight, and Rebekah promptly died. He then played Destructive Decay to trash my Rain Becomes Dust, Great Image to kill Sarah, and Belshazzar's Banquet to prevent me from rescuing without even a chance. There were several rescues he was able to block, but I got in there once for a successful rescue. He just never ran out of defense - the point of Heroless, and the bane of Genesis. My Discarder Lost Soul got him to get rid of his Tabernacle, which was cool. At one point, I felt pretty confident seeing what he had out, and prepared for an attack with Benjamin. I played Destruction on his Go Into Captivity and went for it, expecting him to block with some medium-weight EC, or maybe Ananias and Sapphira. But boy was I surprised when Gomer blocked from hand, banding to my Namaan + Chariots! He got off a Dream and an Imitating Evil->Destructive Decay to scrap my Covenant of Noah before giving me initiative to play Answer to Prayer to grab Buying Grain and then play Reuben's Torn Clothes, ignoring Crimson for my second soul (not counting dominants), but losing my Naaman to conversion. Soon after, he flipped over Holy Grail, and I saw my huge mistake - I had wasted Destruction on something else! Rather than completely preventing him from rescuing without dominants, I let him do as he pleased! Without his Tabernacle, he couldn't've stopped me from getting rid of Holy Grail, he just had so many other annoying artifacts that I fell for it. With many of my Heroes gone, my Chariot gone, and no more enhancements, I was a dead man. I could try to wear him down a little bit with some discards, but nothing he couldn't hold up to. He converted Ashpenaz to Purple, and attacked. I blocked with Lying Spirit banded to his Ananias/Sapphira (with Ananias getting kicked out), and he unsurprisingly played Authority of Christ. His defense (sans Sapphira) was fine, since he had the Color Guard in a purple site. I played my dominants to rescue his only available souls, though, and in his subsequent attack, I blocked with Nero from my hand. I forgot about AotL, and had to CM his Ashpenaz to stop him there. But Paul came soon enough, and I had no more ECs. Luckily, in one of my attacks of desperation, he had blocked with Nebuhashban and swapped his Wanderer for my NT to lock out Rebekah. But this very act gave me the opportunity to not let him rescue any more of mine after he got 2. (He had played Son of God on one of mine earlier.) We ended at a very intense 4-4 tie. A good game had by all, despite our big mistakes.

It's been a while. I don't really remember, but I am pretty sure whatever happened, he couldn't get the soul. (Maybe a female-only in there somewhere?)

Stating the obvious is bad, but restating the obvious is even worse.

AHH WALL OF QUOTES AND SPAM!

Seriously, can we let this thread die peacefully or should we continue to drag its mangled corpse through the mud of spam and nonsense?
