S.S.S.S. vs. MASK
« on: November 24, 2008, 05:23:48 AM »
0
Introduction: Don't take anything personal here. I just want to create a competitive atmosphere and not actually hurt anyone's feelings.

You may have heard of MASK, you may not have. If you haven't, this topic should not affect you that much.

MASK players believe that they can change the type of decks used in type 1 multi by following their silly tactics. They may have ambitions to stop speed overall in type 1, 2 or any multiplayer variation. So far however, it appears they have not made a significant impact.

Unaware to them is the fact that speed won't die. S.S.S.S will make sure speed won't die and will act as a precaution to keep it alive.

No I am not talking about improving the already "established" cookie cutter builds. These decks are already outdated. MASK is going to be facing a new breed of type 1 and type 2 player decks that they will be unable to prepare for. S.S.S.S. will make sure of that.

What is S.S.S.S.? Why hide the name? Ok I won't. Secret Strategists Supporting Speed. So far the group has one member: Me. But you see, that is all it may take to destroy what is known as MASK. If I have to I will take you out by myself.

So here is my proposition. This year's nationals will be a unique year with the addition of the ROA tins and their impact on new strategies. It will also be the year that Speed has gotten stronger. Whether it be me (if I can make it) or someone else in S.S.S.S. who goes to Nats and places in type 1 multiplayer, I will consider that a win for S.S.S.S. and the revival of the age of Speed. However, if a MASK player wins, I will cease my involvement in S.S.S.S., most likely leading to it's collapse.

The power of S.S.S.S. goes beyond the mere idea of speed. I will be willing to impart my knowledge and strategies as a winning redemption player to those who deem themselves capable of handing the magnitude of such power.

See you Nats 09. Make your time.

speed is boring, and MASK already failed. The Minnesotins have a plan that can defeat even the S.S.S.S.

Are you serious? I don't think "speed" decks merit any organization like this. They've completely taken over T1 Multiplayer with no hope for change, and they still primarily dominate T1 2-player, with the occasional anomaly non-speed deck placing. There's no "revival" needed. "The" year when speed got stronger? Maybe my sarcasm detector needs new batteries or something.

As the original organizer of MASK, I had to smile when reading this thread.

#1 - MASK was never about T2 anything, or even T1-2p, it was only about T1-mp.
#2 - Speed deck players don't need to worry about MASK anyway, considering that virtually all MASK players played Booster at Nats '08.
#3 - Speed decks took all 3 of the top spots in T1-mp at Nats '08, so I really don't know how you are going to do better than that.
#4 - I think that MASK has basically disintegrated at this point, so I don't think it will be possible for one of them to win at Nats '09.
#5 - There are plenty of cards already available to use that would shut down speed.  Just not enough people use them.

S4? are you serious?

MASK players believe that they can change the type of decks used in type 1 multi by following their silly tactics.

Calling them "silly tactics" does nothing to diminish their effectiveness. It is still fun to watch a "speed" player squirm and begin to sweat when these "silly tactics" are used against them.

Basically all MASK players played booster draft, so speed still dominated T1 multi.

Dude,

You are so right it will be a unique year, "speed" won't take top three at Nationals and it won't take home any RNRS trophies either. :-* Last year's type 1 multi could have been called the year of the "speed" as it took the top three spots with ease. I'm gonna give this not many draw cards thing a shot, and I don't think it'll do too bad ( *sarcasm* my idea will give those who just played it a silly girly smile ). Look out for other deck's that use the same strategy and take "speed" out like a light. :-*

OH! OKAY!!! so  a masked player is somone who thinks he can beat a speed deck then correct? if so then anything can beat anything.  and every thing has its own weak spot and every thing has its own strnth (please spell this word corectly for me). ther is no such thing as a masked player. cause like i said every thing has a weakness and every thing has a strnth. it depends on if somone finds it or not.

No.

lol and/or find the information yourself. (Via Search)

MASK was a group of players who pledged to play anti-speed type decks in T1 Multi, which I was a part of.  It flopped, sadly, and speed has taken over once again.  ;)

I want to see you try to make a competitive speed deck(I am a speed player by the way) and watch you fail...then laugh same goes for a anti-speed deck which I sha'll always conquer!

Hey,

[Speed decks] still primarily dominate T1 2-player, with the occasional anomaly non-speed deck placing.

What tournaments have you been going to?  Of the 26 tournaments I've attended since the beginning of the 2007 tournament season only two or three of them have been won by a speed deck.  Granted one of those three was the 2007 national tournament, but non-speed decks did place 2nd, 3rd, and 5th in that tournament.

I will recognize speed decks as the most hyped deck type over the last several years, but at least in my part of the country it is definitely not dominating.

Tschow,

Tim "Sir Nobody" Maly
