How do you negate the ongoing protection of cards like Uzzah and Trembling Demon with Holy of Holies and Crown of Thorns active?
This is the way Lackey gave it to me. All hail the power of Lackey!

In general, either have a CBN negation character, Covenant with Death or you don't negate them.

Thaddeus and Abigail come to mind, they don't negate it but protect from it.

The question came up in the game with the following scenario:

- (Holy of Holies and Crown of Thorns activated)
- Matthew rescues
- Wandering Spirit blocks, bands to Spirit of Temptation, bands to Seven Sons of Sceva who goes to the discard pile for Trembling Demon
- Trembling Demon activates, then dies; it is now the defender's initiative
- The defender plays Two Possessed by Demons and targets Matthew as one of the two humans set aside

1) If Matthew uses My Lord and My God, can he target Trembling Demon for the negate even though TD is no longer in play (since MLMG specifies "in play")?
2) If Matthew uses Reach of Desperation and plays Authority of Christ(P), is TD's protection interrupted?  If so, does it reactivate after AoCP finishes?

You in general just don't.  You don't get initiative to negate it, so you don't get to negate it.  You pretty much have to negate or protect from them before they enter battle.

It's been argued many, many times wheather angels sword or TToD can stop an uzzah.

As of right now I believe the ruling is they can't do anything but I strongly disagree with the ruling...

(I'm no good at research and I'm only ever on here with my phone) but... Here's a quote from the new Wiki

"Blocking is the attempt to prevent a rescue. Only Evil Characters may block. Whenever an Evil Character enters the Field of Battle against a Hero (regardless of what point the battle is), that is considered a block."

I always heard or thought that a block was (after an evil characters Sa completed ) either way I still think AS or TToD should work. But again, right now they don't.

The only reason people get lost in thought is because it's unfamiliar territory.

Long story short, you can't. If you aren't protecting or negating before the fact, you can't stop it at all.
I am not talking about T2 unless I am explicitly talking about T2. Also Mayhem is fine now somehow!

Here's what the REG says about negates:

Quote from: REG > Instant Abilities > Negate
General Description
A negate ability takes a previously completed ability and undoes the effect of that ability.
How to Play
A negate ability interrupts all specified special abilities and prevents them from reactivating. A negate ability also prevents
targeted special abilities from ever being able to activate.

Unlike some other special ability types I don't see anything under negate that specifies the default condition "Targets must be in play.” That lines up with the way I've always understood negate to work - you can negate a special ability that is no longer in play.

One of the first practical examples I encountered when I started playing is this - rescuer plays Great Faith and exchanges the searched for enhancement to hand. Initiative passes and the defender plays a EE that says "negate the special ability of the last good enhancement". Great Faith is in the deck, but it still gets negated.

Using the Uzzah example that's been discussed above, after Uzzah has activated and has discarded himself, if you found a way to band Habakkuk into the battle, he would negate Uzzah's protection.

Habakkuk - Negate all protect abilities on evil cards.  After this battle, you may discard a warrior class Evil Character. Cannot be negated.

In the original question, we've confirmed that Angel's Sword does allow Michael to play an enhancement. If that enhancement is Striking Herod, then Uzzah would be interrupted and discarded by Striking Herod because he was the last card played by the opponent in the current battle.

Striking Herod - Interrupt the battle and discard a male human Evil Character.

Quote from: REG > Instant Abilities > Interrupt
Special Conditions
 The phrase “interrupt the battle” includes interrupting the following:
o all active ongoing abilities
o abilities that are defeating one of the characters you control in battle
o the last card played in current battle if it was played by your opponent.
 Interrupt the battle only includes such abilities if they were activated on cards in the current battle.

I have been questioning that post you just quoted, and similar, for quite awhile.  To see my response, see this post in a spin-off thread.  I have bumped both threads and not heard a response yet.

Can we get Elders to give us one ruling, after we are sure what it is?  Some have been ruling one way, most Elder posts we see rule another, and there is still general confusion on the whole issue.  Having it cleared up ahead of the major tourneys would be very helpful :)

In a tournament, While playing a kings deck, I had it ruled that the ec's effect happens first.
My situation was that the king came in, and I blocked with Nebuchadnezzar to search for Belshazzar's Banquet. It was ruled that it worked, but the other player still got to draw.
