So I won the Type I 2 player category at my local today, here's my take on many of the new cards:

1. Samuel is nbd. In my opinion a deck based on Samuel is one of the worst offenses, if your opponent knows what he is doing. I played two Samuel decks, first game was  5-4 (I didn't draw an ec in the first two turns, and after that he never rescued another one except for sog/nj). The second game was 5-1. He's just not that good, especially if you get an early Nazareth.

2. The new red/purple cards are way too good. Amaziah is broken to the max and gets my vote for best hero of all time, Ahimelek is amazing, and Abigail creates a very good amount of consistency.

3. The Egyptian cards are way good. They generate a good amount of ls, draw cards like CRAZY, and have synergy with a lot of other themes.

Still want to try prophets and Judges, those will probably be my next two projects.

Ignoring the fact that most offenses based on Samuel that I've seen use Amaziah, Ahimelek, and Abigail, I'd say your analysis is spot on...

You probably won't find a deck based on Samuel winning much.  Decks that include Samuel will be very fast, and as a result, be very good.  I played a Samish deck at our local on Saturday, and didn't find it very good, as I was focusing too much on Sam.

Depends on the emphasis. Decks emphasizing on Samuel are bad, decks using him only as the speed engine are very powerful. Even still, using Samuel and banding more than 1 guy in is going to be a bad strategy, probably.

Sam is good. And what makes him good is a 3+ hero band. other than that he would be lackluster.

Big bands like that can be nice.  However, I've found they are hurt by FBTN.

The thing with Sam decks is that, if you tech for them, they're going to be taken down easily. However, if you don't, they're nigh unstoppable once you get going.

Massive +1s. My "Samuel" deck used the angels for speed, Samuel, and Samuel's Edict, but otherwise purple and red for the win. By the end of the tournament I was calling it an Ahimilek deck.

However, they're even more helped by FBTNB. Cap off the band with an Ira or Benaiah.

This is everything. Same with disciples/Thad last year.

How can they end up with a Ira or Benaiah? I'm trying to think of 1 Samuel heroes that can band to them and I can't think of them. Who am I missing?

You're missing the fact that Ishmaiah can band to II Samuel or I Chronicles heroes. Like Asahel. Who can then band to Ira/Benaiah. You have to focus a bit more on red to fit it in, but it's ridiculously good.

Or you could go through Armorbearer - Yeah, they'd get kicked out of battle, but it would still accomplish the goal.

The one time my deck got stopped cold was by a surprise KoT that took out my Sam/Armorbearer.  (I didn't have any enhancements that were CBP/CBN at the time).  I didn't draw any for two more turns (fortunately, my opponent was having the same trouble drawing offense)

This thread makes me question what people are considering "sam decks." My main deck is a sam deck and has gone something like 13-1. It has won 2 locals and a district against good players who had counters included in their decks. Just kind of interested in knowing what is out there. What defenses have you seen in these sam decks and what have you seen on offense in them? Maybe my version is just totally different.

I have also used a Sam deck and it pretty much has pwned face to this point. How can you say it is a bad deck? There has got to be some other lackluster way to use Sam that some people are running for the moment until they figure out the power potential. Seriously, you can tech against him but if you don't get your anti cards out fast it will be too far gone. I also use destruction and captured ark to take care of most anti Sam artifacts. Once you have everything set up, you will have multiple ways to CBN win.

I think the general definition of a "Sam Deck" is "any deck that includes Sam and at least two heroes of every other good brigade in the game, but no defense".

The Sam deck I used before I got bored with it was mostly a Purple/Red offense with a Brown defense (albeit small).
I am not talking about T2 unless I am explicitly talking about T2. Also Mayhem is fine now somehow!

Actually, the only color I don't regularly see in Sam decks is blue, and to a lesser extent, teal.

See, that's just it. "Sam deck" seems to be a catch-all for "any deck that happens to have Samuel and David in it." The only non-Red/Purple Heroes in my Sam deck were Sam, Armorbearer and Hur.

I think Pol is dead on.
"Sam deck" seems to be the new catch all similar to what "Speed deck" meant.  It means different things to different people but to sum it up....it means what Pol says it does "any deck with Sam in it." Which is similar to people's common description of speed, "any deck with extra drawing."  I think both are erroneous definitions but people are going to call it whatever they want especially when they lose to it.

For example, I had people calling my deck "another Sam deck," but from reading this thread....it is nothing like what a typical Sam deck is.  Apparently the only common trait was Samuel.  I don't think titles of decks or strategies should be a one size fits all.  It is possible for Samuel to be in a Judges deck, Prophets deck, a fast deck, Royalty deck, and/or Warrior-class deck, and none of these need to be classified as a "Sam deck."  He's just a versatile guy with his colors and ability.

What? Red/Purple is definitely the most common, but Red/Teal is definitely one of the best.

Blue and white.

Agreed. As I said, I ended up renaming my Sam deck an Ahimilek deck.

Sam decks are weak again my deck. Any version. If you are attacking with Samuel and banding in anyone else, I'm going to successfully block you. Of course, in building my defense to stop this, Disciples and TGT would completely wreck me. But hey, who uses those decks anymore?  ::)

Disciples are a wonderfully interesting wildcard this season. They're not really in the meta right now, and they aren't hit by the same anti-meta tools that Genesis and Sam (in all it's versions) are. The implications of this are interesting I think, since Babylonians, if made correctly, can be relatively strong against Sam, and completely stop Disciples, they will eventually see play.
