Buying individual cards would probably save you money, unless you like the offense in each of the tins (Red for Faith of our Fathers, Red for Rock of Ages (not 100% sure of this), Genesis for 2011 Set).
It will be hard to buy individual cards or even tins I suppose from the new set for at least a few months though.

Any advice on which individual cards would be good?

Queen Tehpenes, Pithom, Potiphar's Wife, Egyptian Archer, Egyptian Warden, Egyptian Charioteers (starter deck), Egyptian Horsemen (starter deck), Pharoah's Throneroom, Given over to Egypt, Egyptian Horses, Magicians Snakes, Wonder's Forgotten (Priest pack common), Failed Objective, Swift Horses, Escape to Egypt...

And whatever is in the new set... you're probably better off buying that tin.

That should give a good base for an Egyptian deck, you should look up a card list (or download RTS) to see what other cards you may want to add.

The Egyptian cards from the new Tin XXII are:

Egyptian Magicians
Pharaoh's Baker
Pharaoh's Cupbearer
The Dreaming Pharaoh

All of them come highly recommended for an Egyptian defense.
