Title: Epic Game
Post by: Minister Polarius on August 25, 2009, 04:01:24 AM
I just finished playing the most epic and fun game of Redemption I have ever played against the good Professor. There were some fantastic maneuvers on each side, but I feel the need to post the coolest play I've ever made (and I guess I'll do it here since there isn't a good plays board anymore).

Earlier in the game, I had CM'd a Men of Judah holding Warrior's Spear in territory. A few turns later, Professor used Soldier's Prayer to get it back and put it on Centurion at Capernum. Then he attacked and nuked my Son of God. I was in a bad situation. I had a KoT in my territory, but he would be Negated by Centurion. All I had in my hand that was relevant was Destructive Sin and Mayhem. However, I had Lavered a Wicked Spirit on a previous turn and had my Gates of Hell out. I had also placed a Seven Sons of Sceva on a Site earlier with the Site guard. I knew I would need my Gates of hell later, so here is what I did.

I first used GoH to get my Wicked Spirit into play and blocked with it played Destructive Sin to Negate Centurion's ability to Negate KoT. I then played Mayhem and fortunately got AotL in my new hand. I played it on KoT, enabling me to bring my SSS out from their site, exchanged them with KoT, and Negated Warrior's Spear, getting my SoG back and winning the battle.

I could have just played the Negate and then Discarded GoH to add KoT to battle, and it turns out I never used GoH again that game, but the point is I was able to pull off a super cool move and save something I thought I was going to need.

Props, Professor, that game was intense.

This game could not possibly have taken place, because I have been informed that there is no longer a meaningful Battle Phase in Redemption.

My head was spinning, and I was going through all the reasons why there is no way that should work. Then I realized it did, and I was rather impressed.

By the way, Polarius won the game handily, but I may have had more fun with my experimental deck. It will definitely see some more play. Either way, it was a much better game than what the score (5-0) would suggest.

That was funny :)

And for the record, I actually had 3 really fun games in ROOT last week, which also had a lot of really meaningful Battle Phases.  Of course it is worth noting that none of the 3 decks that I played with or against used TGT or Zeb or Jake+RTC recursion or ....

I assumed he meant Seven Wicked Spirits.

im still lost on how aotl'ing kot allowed him to release sss from his site...

It didnt. He discarded KoT, so SSS could come out of the site, and swap for KoT. He basicly used Gates to add KoT into battle, without using Gates.

used gates without using gates? huh?

and again, im still lost on how discarding kot allowed sss to come out of the site. im sure im missing something pretty simple. :D

SSS was placed facedown by a fortify card, I think. So it'd be aqble to band in whenever you feel like it.

ooooooooooooh...haha, got it. didnt realize you can band the evil character on the site whenever you want. :D

No... seven wicked spirits wouldn't have helped him.

I think there's still a battle phase... but you have to use a defensive deck, or at least a balanced one. When you see some of the top decks, like Cameron's and Gabe's... you see why the impressions of "no battle phase" is still around. Here in CA at Bryon's tourneys... we take pride in our battle phase!  ;)

That is quite a cool play... well done.

I agree with a few others have not played in so long, that all of this sounded like Russian to me with vowels..... Even the so called funniest comment ever makes no sense.

Does anyone care to take out all the abbrev's and explain it in newbie terms I am very interested in the way the cards are being played.

Thanks,

Clueless

Justin, I don't understand. I don't abbreviate anything (except Christian Martyr) without first typing its full name in the original post.

It's all very elaborate and logical except for the play of Mayhem, were you really counting on drawing AotL or was that just the option that presented itself?

I wasn't exactly hoping to get AotL per se, just something helpful.
