Okay... it's not the easiest combo to pull it off but it will allow you to discard 5 cards off of opponent's deck without ever letting them block.
What you need:
Spyx5, all of them with warrior's spear equipped
Elishama with Gathering of Angels on him
Etheopian Treasurer
Battly Cry in hand or discard pile
Flight of Spies in hand
Attack with Elishima, place battle cry on one of your spies and then band to him with Gathering of Angels. Battle Cry activates and the other 4 spies and ET are banded into battle. Then play Flight of Spies with ET. Withdraw Elishima and ET, and take Flight of Spies into your hand. The 5 spies withdraw because of their own ability, so there is now no characters in battle. Battle Cry goes to the discard pile where it can be recurred again by Elishima.
Block with King Rehoboam II (is that the guy who makes battle challenges?) for maximum battle challenge effect. This works just as effectively in a bc as it does in a rescue, and it never grants initiative in either scenario.
Downsides: not too hard to stop. Destructive Sin/Image of Jealousy on Elishima stops it cold. So does Darius' Decree and golden calf. There are other not-too-hard ways to shut it down.
Upsides: if you get it quick, in one rescue and one block with a bc you discard 10 cards. There is a good chance you can discard some of the cards that hurt you from their deck. In addition, joseph's silver cup can keep another artifact active so that they can't get Darius' Decree out.
Well, comments? Anyone think it can be done effectively?

Issue. In order for ET to play flight of spies, one of the spies would need to stay in battle. All the heroes do not enter battle at the same time. However, each time one enters, their ability must activate first. This means that the spies would all leave before ET could play something on them.
*EDIT*
Here is the order of these abilities.
1) Elishana enters, places battle cry on a spy, bands to spy.
2) Spy enters via gathering, his SA activates, and you must then pick to withdraw or stay. Regardless, spear and battle cry activate (im still not sure on this ruling...)
3) The next spy enters battle, and you must immediately pick to stay or withdraw, spear activates regardless.
(4 to 6) Repeat 3.
7. Finally, ET would enter, but all the spies have entered and left battle, so there is nobody left to play Flight of Spies on.
This would not work the other way either, as if ET enters first, then theres still no spies in battle to play Flight of Spies on.

Again, it wouldn't work.
Characters enter bands one at a time. There is no way to get a spy in battle, play a card off him with ET, and THEN use his retreat ability. The instant spy enters battle, you must decide to withdraw or keep him in battle.

So I need to play training in Righteousness on ET, so that he can play red?
So other than that, if it feasible?

Well anywhere from 1 spy to 5 spies still works, so it doesn't take too long to get going. Here's what I thought would be more simple, just convert an ec with a swift horses/namaan's ponies/etc. to red and band him in instead of ET. In most theme defenses I'll have at least 3-4 interrupt and play next so then I'll just use holy grail. I tried a prototype today just to see how it draws and I got the combo by the 8th turn... not bad.
