Title: Well Then
Post by: Minister Polarius on July 29, 2012, 04:53:52 AM
Every two years, there's a reason for me to come to this board some time other than Football season. Come to find out, nobody's even talking about the Olympics. wut.

My family doesn't watch the Olympics because we don't have cable or anything. The only things I know about the Olympics this year is that they are in London, and that the official song is Survival by Muse.

The only Olympic sport I care about is hockey… And that's in the winter. :-X

I've been watching it a lot.  The archery so far has been the most intense event.  Waiting for the TKD event.

Phelps lost and China is going to win. Truthfully, I'm just waiting for the dancing horses.

I stopped watching the Olympics when it started becoming similar to a reality show.

We don't get any channels at all (which is kind of a blessing, considering all the trash that's on TV...)

You choose what you will watch.

That said I normally watch my shows online...

I'm catching the olympics here and there. I've grown apathetic of the swimming and gym events, though I'm looking forward to the track events. I actually really like vollyball now, having played pick-up vollyball this past spring.

You really shouldn't be on the internet, then, because there is alot trashier stuff on the web than there is on TV.

On the internet, you can control exactly what you see. It also serves many purposes other than entertainment.

On TV, you can only control what channel you watch; you're completely at the mercy of commercials. While there are some advertisements on websites, the only unsavory ones are on unsavory websites.

Nicely put, Minister.

I get what you're saying in general, but this statement is NOT accurate.  There are often ads for finding "love" on the sidebar of my Hotmail, Yahoo, and Pandora websites that I regularly visit.  And until I did some serious blocking, I kept getting spam emails about viagra, etc.  I am still amazed that I've had this experience since I don't think I've ever visited any porn websites at all.

The Internet is certainly a place that must be tread with care, and people have to be proactive and intentional to avoid being exposed to stuff that is hurtful to our relationship with God.

So how many times did everyone else have to read this sentence?   ::)

Ah, perhaps my experience is colored by know-how. I've always used adblock since it's been available and the spam filter on Gmail lets maybe 1-2 emails through per year.

FYI, that was a joke, I just forgot to put the winking smiley.  ;)

I use a digital antenna, so I only get local channels, but I rarely watch TV these days, except for sports. I did watch Terra Nova, but now its gone.  :'(
