I don't post threads about hockey because I'm pretty sure LP and I are the only ones actually qualified to talk about hockey and I don't talk about hockey with people who don't know hockey because you just get to hear stupid statements.

Also I like the Penguins so I'm pretending this is still the regular season.

Rinne is the luckiest goalie. Ever.

Rinne is substantial better than Howard, so it really doesn't matter about luck, but that helps.

Well, if Franzen's shot was a tenth of a second earlier and Emmerton's shot wasn't barely blocked, than Detroit is up 2-1 in the series.

We can play the what if game about this particular series, or we can continue to believe that the best talent will win out. And Rinne is the best talent.

If Franzen's shot goes in, it's a completely different game. Nashville wouldn't be turtling in their zone; you'd see more flow and action because Nashville would be trying to lead a charge to break the tie. Emmerton's shot probably wouldn't have happened. That shot isn't a function of luck either. It's a function of good team defense.

fixed and another thing, i never root for the red wings and i NEVER will. i don't even like the detroit red wings and i don't plan to like them anytime soon in the future. i love the Nashville Predators and always will cause they are my home team. and another thing, i really don't appritiate it when people such as yourself takes something that i say, re-edits it, and posts it making it seem like i said something else. i hate it when people do that. that's disrespecting and offending me.

Go Bruins!

I'd like to win in regulation, just for my heart's sake.  ;)

FTR, Pelle Lindbergh was the most talented goalie ever, before his untimely death.

Dominik Hasek was the best goalie ever. Pekka Rinne is the best goalie in these playoffs right now and he's much better than Jimmy Howard, no offense to Howard of course. Alex I am sorry about your Penguins. I remember a time when MA used to be an elite goalie but he can't be allowed to keep that title after this series. I think I could probably play better than him at this point. Put me in coach!

The Pens deserve it. They blew two great first periods at home. Game 3 was just a function of inept defense. I'm becoming a critic of the HCDB system that everyone else loves... but alas.

Rinne is the best goalie. Just watch the games and you can tell that.

Congrats to the Penguins on avoiding the sweep. Side note, the most goals ever scored in a playoff series was 69 in 1985. This series currently sits at 45. If the penguins can force a game six we could witness a bit of history that would shatter the careers of Marc-Andre Fluery and Ilya Bryzgalov. If there's anything left of them that is.

GRR STUPID PENGUINS SUCK
Title: Re: NHL Stanley cup playoffs
Post by: lp670sv on April 18, 2012, 10:42:17 PM
Honestly I'm not sure if this is the worst series in playoff history for the lack of defense/goaltending/class or the best simply because I've died laughing watching every game. This definitely lessens the sting of the Sabres missing the playoffs.

Unfortunately Fluery's "meh" effort tonight wasn't enough to convince Bylsma to keep him in net and the penguins have called up their secret weapon
Spoiler (hover to show)

Fleury actually played well tonight imo. None of the goals were explicitly his fault and he made the saves he should have. Bryz looked like I was in net.

There have been plenty of dirty plays that were let go so far this post season but this has to take the cake. Why make the save when you can just punch the guy in the face and pick up the puck while he's on the ice? For anyone wondering punching a player in the head with your glove/blocker is supposed to be an automatic match penalty but Tim Thomas typically get's away with anything. Scummiest goalie in the league on one of the scummier teams in the league.

Oh by the way, Backstrom has a concussion history and there have been a questionable amount of hits to this head by the Bruins this post season.

Well glad the goalie's finally decided to show up in game 5. kinda bummed though. Was really hoping they'd break the goals-in-a-series record but they need 19 in potentially 2 games and it appears the goalies actually figured out how to stop a puck.

Pekka Rinne moving on. Good for him.

I was there and I was glad I didn't have to hold my breath every time the puck was in the defensive zone.

So let's recap.

2008 Stanley Cup Champions? Gone.
2009 Champs? Done.
2010 Champions? Facing Elimination
2011 Champions? Facing Elimination.
2012 President's trophy winners? Bounced in 4.

To quote Bob Johnson, "It's a great day for hockey." Love this game.

Edit: Currently watching a Penguins and Red Wings fan fight it out over whose team failed less. Gratuitous use of popcorn gif is being used. I love AP.net threads

I am surprised there aren't any posts talking about Holtby. Third string goalie with next to no experience facing off against the defending champs.

My Capitals are playing this one down to the wire - we keep squandering each home ice opportunity we get. We will have to pick up a 3rd win on Wed in Boston to advance.

He's playing well but he's being overshadowed by Mike Smith and Pekka Rinne at the moment. I am still surprised that neither Vokoun nor Nuevrith are it net, I know Vokoun is injured but I thought he was supposed to be bad by now and it's the playoffs so usually players play injured this time of year.

I didn't know there were any Caps fans here. I wish he wasn't doing so well for my Bruins' sake.  ;)

The Bruins have outshot the Caps 216-180, but each team has given up 14 goals. The Bruins outshot the Caps in 4 out of 6 games. Ironically, the 2 games that the Caps had more shots were both Bruins wins.

Adios Boston! Man these playoffs are going amazing. Already the best team of the regular season is out, and 2 low seeds have won in the east. With the other 2 series going to game 7s there is a distinct possibility that all 4 of the top 4 seeds in the east will be sent home in the first round. I love hockey.

Rangers are the only top 4 seed to advance in the east. Glad the panthers didnt get to advance, I have nothing against the team but the way they got in to the playoffs just wasn't right. Hopefully they'll be back next year in a more legitimate way and Brian Campbell can get himself a cup.
