NFL Prediction Challenge
« on: September 05, 2013, 02:09:40 PM »
0
With football season under way tonight, it's time to make some predictions about how the season will turn out. I have included my predictions, as well as a relative point value for each prediction. I think it'd be fun to see at the end of the season who was the best predictor, and I might think of a prize to throw in as well.

Winner of the AFC North: 1 point Bengals
Winner of the AFC East: 1 point Patriots
Winner of the AFC West: 1 point Broncos
Winner of the AFC South: 1 point Colts
Winner of the NFC North: 1 point Packers
Winner of the NFC East: 1 point Eagles
Winner of the NFC West: 1 point Seahawks
Winner of the NFC South: 1 point Panthers

Winner of the AFC Championship game: 3 points Broncos
Winner of the NFC Championship game: 3 points Seahawks

Winner of the Super Bowl: 5 points

Team with overall best record (if teams are tied, all correct responses get points): Broncos, Seahawks
Team with the overall worst record (if teams are tied, all correct responses get points): 2 points Texans
QB with the highest passer rating: 3 points Nick Foles
RB with the most rushing yards: 3 points LeSean McCoy
WR with the most receiving yards: 3 points Josh Gordon
Team with the most points scored: 3 points Broncos
Defense with the most turnovers: 4 points Seahawks
Offensive Rookie of the Year: 3 points
Defensive Rookie of the Year: 3 points
League MVP: 5 points
First head coach to be fired during the season (none is an acceptable answer): 3 points Gary Kubiak

Tiebreaker: Total number of points scored in the Super Bowl, Price is Right style (i.e. closest without going over wins). Note that you cannot guess the same number as any other person before you.

There are plenty more predictions that could be made, but I'll leave it at these for now. Posts must be made here before kickoff next Thursday night, so you have 1 week to change your predictions based on the results of this week's games.

My entry:
Winner of the AFC North: Bengals
Winner of the AFC East: Patriots
Winner of the AFC West: Broncos
Winner of the AFC South: Colts
Winner of the NFC North: Vikings  ::)
Winner of the NFC East: Giants
Winner of the NFC West: 49ers
Winner of the NFC South: Falcons

Winner of the AFC Championship game: Broncos
Winner of the NFC Championship game: Falcons

Winner of the Super Bowl: Broncos

Team with overall best record (if teams are tied, all correct responses get points): Falcons
Team with the overall worst record (if teams are tied, all correct responses get points): Jaguars
QB with the highest passer rating: Aaron Rodgers
RB with the most rushing yards: Adrian Peterson
WR with the most receiving yards: Calvin Johnson
Team with the most points scored: Packers
Defense with the most turnovers: Bears
Offensive Rookie of the Year: Tavon Austin
Defensive Rookie of the Year: Tyrann Matthieu
League MVP: Matt Ryan
First head coach to be fired during the season (none is an acceptable answer): Rex Ryan

Who coaches the Raiders?

Dennis Allen. He and Rex Ryan are at the top of the vegas odds for that particular question. One of them is 3:2 I think.

I think the jets are going to do okay this year. probably not well enough to save Rex's job, but well enough to get him through the season.

It's one night calm down let the media be over reactionary.  Knowledgable fans know not to flip too fast. I am a steelers fan and I would love to see the ravens flop this year but one night doesn't tell the story of a season.

When the ravens lose, they love to lose in spectacular fashion like this.

And this is coming from a Ravens fan.

Exactly.  They suffered big losses to the Texans and Broncos like this last year.  One game does not a season make.

Steelers will get some stuff figured out, I believe in Tomlin. Jaguars will be worst overall.

I agree that the Jags will be worst overall, but there's really nothing to "figure out" in Pittsburgh. The team is a dumpster fire, and at this point we've figured out that it is, in fact, a dumpster fire. Now they can put that dumpster fire out, but then they'd just be left with charred dumpster full of ash, which is actual worse than a dumpster fire in that it is just as useless and not nearly as interesting to look at.

For those wondering putting out the dumpster fire = realizing you're going nowhere, trading away anyone with value, and entering rebuild mode.
