I like Yahoo, too, but would like to try out the new site.  It sounds like it has some good features.  I'd also be willing to toss in a few bucks towards the fee.

I'm all for a move since it will make the year to year comparisons, etc easier, however I'm more than willing to man the second league for the initial year if we decide to stick with Yahoo.

Y'all are more than welcome to check out what the new site has to offer. It has won numerous awards as one of the top fantasy football websites.

Go to our league (so far)

http://www8.myfantasyleague.com/2011/home/60600

Choose to log in as Franchise 1 and enter password: redemption2011

You can play around with it and look at player stats and different options. If we play on this site, I can also choose to replace managers partway through the season if someone were to want to drop out or not check their team after the draft, which always happens to at least 1 or 2 managers each year.

It also appears that I can literally change most anything about the league, regarding rules, stat categories, appearance, how stats are listed on various pages, links to other websites, how the home page shows up, put complex rules on transactions or setting rosters, allow everyone to see how everyone else voted on trades, etc. So if you think of something cool to implement, let me know.

Forget Yahoo and their long server response times.  Me likey the new site a lot!  Let's do it!  And if it's a success I'll be willing to transition my Yahoo leagues over to the new site.

I haven't looked at the new site but it sounds like a good fit because of the year-to-year ease of use.  I am wondering what we get for the money and if it is worth it though.  Would there be a prize for the winners because it was a pay-for site or are we just paying for the servers?

As an aside, I prefer ESPN over Yahoo! by a very large margin.

Also, I wouldn't be able to contribute if the need would arise.  I cannot justify paying for something when there are free options AND it is just for fun.

Sean,

You bring up good points. I am not aware of any prize money that comes out of the league fee. We are mainly paying for the servers and the customization and flexibility.

I am not asking anyone to contribute money, please don't take that to be the case. I have always loved playing free fantasy football and I understand that many, if not all, of the players in this league are looking to play for free. I just want to make our fantasy football experience more enjoyable and as the commissioner, I view it as my privilege to provide us with a potentially better option to meet our fantasy football desires. I am not trying to guilt trip anyone into helping pay for it, so please play as usual and leave the cost up to me. If I didn't have the money to cover it without assistance I wouldn't have suggested the move to a paid site so openly. Plus, I view it as a small way to give back as a token of thanks for all the acts of kindness each of you has shown me.   :)

I am waiting to hear from more players before I commit to the new site. Also I am waiting on hearing back from a couple more previous managers as I don't want to stick someone in the top league only to have to move them down to the other league 2 days later... If anyone wants to join the league on August 1 or beyond, they will automatically start in the bottom league, regardless of past performance. They have had plenty of time to convey interest to play again.

I am definitely interested in playing with you guys. :D I don't mind paying a bit of money, either. I am hardcore about fantasy football and I do take it seriously, so if you're still looking for players, I'm your man. You can send an invite to jernst85 at gmail dot com.

I just saw this thread. Is this open to people who have never played fantasy football before, don't follow football closely, and have frequently wondered what it's all about? If so, I'd be interested in joining. :)

Well, they let me in 3 years ago, and they have kept me...so....I assume the answer is yes.  However, Kirk is the commissioner and is final word.

We would love to have you join us. I can walk you through the basics and could either outline it on here or meet you in person and tell you when I come to your house!  :)

Definitely in favor of switching to the new site - I've always been kinda lukewarm towards Yahoo, and the potential at this site looks fairly impressive.

Alright I went ahead and purchased the league. I will work to finalize setting up in the league over the next few days. I start a new job on Monday and work in the evenings on getting stuff set up and then send out the invites.

I am game for a Saturday draft, not sure what y'all want. How about August 20th at 3 pm CST? Throw out other dates/times if you so desire! We can have a draft for each subleague at different times as well.

On another note, I would love it if 1 more person stepped up to play so we can have 9 teams in each league instead of 8 and 9 or we could do 8 and 10.

I think I would prefer a Saturday evening draft rather than an afternoon draft.  However, I don't know about my exact schedule so I could also be able to make the afternoon draft.

Sat. Evening is much better for me as well, I almost always work until 6PM CST. I could possibly ask to work a shorter shift if we do an afternoon draft, but would perfer not too.

Also, Kirk, You've got a PM.

[start of ignorant questions] What is this draft thing? It sounds like it's something that's live... I don't know that I would be able to do anything that is live at a scheduled time on a weekend. Is there anyway that mine could be random or something if I can't do it? Otherwise maybe I should step out and then watch and figure out what you guys are doing this year!

I have church on Saturday evenings, so a draft then really wouldn't work for me. Friday evenings or Sunday evenings work out best for me, although I'm available most weeknights too.

Okay I will nail down who is in each half of league first and then I will set up draft times for each half.

I am still waiting to see if we can get 1 more manager aboard so I can set up the divisions and schedule and email out invites. Otherwise, with an odd number of teams, we will have a weird schedule with byes.

Anyone know any other Redemption players that would want to join in?

Ken,
In fantasy football, managers pick actual NFL players to be on their virtual fantasy teams. These managers are rewarded for how well "their players" perform for their respective NFL teams in their weekly games. Managers accrue points for how their players do (i.e. a touchdown is worth 6 points). You face off against another manager and his fantasy squad each week and whoever has the most points wins. The draft is held live but you can prerank your players to be automatically drafted for you if you are not there. For example, you could leave the default rankings that are in place or you could set up your own ranking system.
