Fantasy Football 2011 - Check your emails

The league is up and running. Check your emails for a link and your password. You can go on the new site and change your team name, logo, etc.
http://www8.myfantasyleague.com/2011/home/60600

Now to determine draft timess for each conference. I will go ahead and put the Alpha draft time for Aug 20 at 9 pm EST as I heard no objections to that and y'all can just let me know if that does not work.

Beta needs to have more than 1 person chime in that could make a live draft or I will pick a time and y'all can chime in.

2 Conferences: Alpha and Beta
This league will run similar to the EPL or other foreign soccer leagues with relegation and promotion at the end of each season. At the end of each season, the top 3 teams from Beta will rotate up to Alpha and the bottom 3 teams from Alpha will drop to Beta.

Conference Alpha and Conference Beta will operate independently of each other for the duration of each season.
Examples:
- Each player (e.g. Tom Brady) can be on one team in Alpha and one team in Beta.
- You only trade with teams in your conference.
- You square off against your own conference for your own conference title.
- 2 separate drafts.

Playoffs Weeks 15 and 16

Waivers following each week
Every week after games finish on the weekend, teams can submit requests to pick up available players. However, compared to past years where it was based on who logged online first, this year all free agents are put on the 'waiver wire' again over the weekend's games to allow for more equitable distribution of free agent pick-ups.

Thanks,
Kirk

Kirk,

Thanks for running this each year.

I'm a big fan of two leagues. I also like the idea of past performance determining initial leagues, then doing it ala European Soccer, where the various teams move up or down. I'm on the fence on week 17 playoffs, I don't think I'm a fan though.

Also, for any interested, last year I ran a Auction style draft, I announced really late so we only had 6 teams, and most didn't do a whole lot during the season, but I'm totally up for running it again this year.

I think 2 leagues, 20 teams was way to much last year.

I dont like playing on week 17 because anyone who has a place secured will likely rest and that will place people in a mad scramble to trade for players after the trading deadline.  the waiver wire will go crazy.

oh and put me down for playing this year!

I'll play again.  I like the two tiers based on performance, gives you something to shoot for/maintain.  Not really in favor of playing Week 17 for the reasons already stated.

RDT, that auction was pretty fun, so I'll probably do that if you decide to run it again.

I would be interested in a 16 or less team league.   Thanks, Kirk.

I'm not in favor of week 17.

If we make 2 leagues, wouldn't having 10 teams per league make sense since there were 20 teams in one league last year?  (keeping in mind that 10 team leagues usually have plenty of talent to choose from)

For splitting people up, assuming we get everyone from last year back, I would like to see the ranking split so that the top two are in different leagues, 3 and 4 are in different leagues, 5 and 6 are in different leagues, etc...  That way the successful teams will be mixed in with the unsuccessful teams.

I'm game for any and all leagues again this year.  I've already renewed leagues for which I am commissioner so some of you may have received emails.

As for the week 17, I go back and forth on the idea.  HOWEVER, if we lose any weeks to the lockout, then I say we definitely do the final week of the regular season regardless of teams resting players because I'm going to want as much fantasy NFL action as possible.

I am interested in playing as well. Was not a fan of the 20 team league even though I think I won it. I would like to see the league split up into 2 divisions based on past performance.

Thanks from the input from everyone so far.

Are there any others that hold to the opinion that the top teams should be split between 2 leagues?

I also have always hated having playoffs on week 17. Its always a scrub fest match up and like 75% luck if you win. Very anti-climactic. Week 16 is much more exciting.

I am up for the two leagues based on rank from the previous season. I am not up for the extended season. I also want a 50% cut on all merchandise and concessions you get through the fantasy football league...otherwise I and the other owners are not playing this year.  :o

Who else wants to play this year? I will come up with a system to determine rankings (looking at how soccer does it to devise a system). It would be great to have a better idea of how many people want to play this year to see if we need 2 leagues, as I imagine we will.

Haha thanks John!

15 teams in for this year so far. It would be sweet if we could get at least 1 more so we could put an even 8 and 8 in each league to begin with and then go from there.

I will set up the parameters soon and post the details.

We are up to 16 teams now. Perfect for starting the split league! More are still definitely welcome.

Move from Yahoo to MyFantasyLeague

I am in favor of moving our league to MyFantasyLeague.com (I will pay the cost for it) from the free Yahoo fantasy site. With our league branching into 2 with a system to use historic performance to dictate if you play in league A or B, I believe it will make things more fun for everyone to see what is going on with the rest of the teams in the opposite league and keep it all under one house instead of having to create 2 Yahoo leagues.

- I can set it up with 2 conferences, with one conference hosting league A and the other hosting league B.
- I can allow 1 team in each conference to have the ability to have a certain player. So Team A in League A can have Adrian Peterson and Team Z in League B can have Adrian Peterson as well.
- I can allow teams to only trade with teams in their conferences. *EDIT*
- I can set up 2 playoff brackets at the end of the year to determine the 2 winners.
- I can set up so many more countless custom options, including allowing teams to trade future draft picks for players, for example.

Let me know your thoughts.

There are so so many countless fun options we could employ but I don't know how much we want to change it up in one year, haha.

League A and League B Teams

Also, I have completed my initial calculations to determine who starts off in League A and who starts in League B. I am waiting to hear back if a few other previous managers are wanting to play with us again. If so, I will have potentially re-evaluate between a couple teams as far as who starts where.

For those of you wondering how I calculated who starts in which league, I calculated the average finish of each team for however many years that team has been a part of the league over the past 4 years. Based on how many teams sign up to play this year, the top half of the teams will start in League A and the other half will start in League B. Then in future years, the bottom 3 teams from League A will switch leagues with the top 3 teams from League B (The 3 team number can be played with, just my initial thought on the matter). I consulted relegation and promotion guidelines followed by the major soccer leagues in the world to come up with that number (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Promotion_and_relegation).

With the constant promotion and relegation each season, it will hopefully keep managers interested in staying active through the end of the season; even if they are out of the playoff hunt, teams will be fighting to remain in the top League for a chance to compete for the top crown the following season.

I am open to all feedback or suggestions. Moving to the new website will allow so much more customization and will make things easier if certain managers (*cough Jonathan Greeson*) forget their password.  ;) Definitely ask your Redemption friends if they want to play with us because it is easier to get it all set up for a draft if players are on board very soon.

I am fine with moving but dont think you should bear the cost on your own.  perhaps a small fee to play might be in order?  the new site sounds like it has plenty of benefits!

I am very hesitant to agree to a move from yahoo. I love yahoo leagues and hated any time I played in a league that was not yahoo. All the features sound cool but I am just very hesitant. If everyone else is okay with it though I am willing to try something new.

Matt,

I thought the cost would be more at first but it looks like it only $45, so it isn't very much.

Eric,

I would agree that I really like Yahoo. The difficulty lies in having 2 leagues. We can do it as 2 separate Yahoo leagues, but then we need a 2nd person in the other league to act as the commissioner and if that person moves up to the top league the following year, then someone else would need to be the commissioner.

This doesn't matter quite as much, but with there being 2 leagues on Yahoo, it will be a little trickier to view the league history with teams moving from one league to the other. We can keep track of that on here though, so that isn't a big deal.

I am fine for leaving the status quo, but we would need someone to step up to be the 2nd commissioner. From who it looks like will be in the 2nd league, would someone such as Alex Olijar, John Earley, or Travis Brown be interested in doing so? I want to hear more thoughts, keep them coming!

Kirk
