Title: ESPN Keeper Fantasy Baseball 2011
Post by: Sean on February 01, 2011, 07:53:56 PM
Hello friends!  ESPN has now opened the baseball leagues for 2011.  If you participated last year then there are a couple things for you to do.  The first is to select your keepers.  The second is to answer the following question: Do you want to be able to trade draft picks?

I look forward to another great season!

YES to trading draft picks!  :)

I have no strong opinion on trading draft picks.

I'm also trying to convince myself to keep JJ over Liriano :-*

Epicsauce.

I really don't care.
About baseball in general. But this drafting thing is fun!  ;D

I also vote yes to trading picks.

I have added a poll concerning draft pick trading so I can easily see the results on the fantasy page.  Please vote.

Also, please check the current roster settings and scoring settings.  Let me know if there is something that I forgot about from our discussions last season.

I posted a league message about the batter/pitcher maximums.  They look odd.

I don't suppose it is possible to check who others have selected as their keepers, is it? Didn't see an option at the draft home.

Trying to figure out if I should keep Prince or if I can get a good 1b in the draft :P

There is a way to view who is being kept.  Go to the page you select your keepers and there is a link above the check boxes that says, "View League Keepers."

I don't get that link.  Even visiting each team's page doesn't show me keepers.

I think he only gets it because he's the leader.
Title: Re: Fantasy Baseball 2011
Post by: Sean on February 09, 2011, 01:21:11 PM
I guess that's how it works.  Which is weird because I have been able to see that list in a football keeper league where I'm not the LM.

I would be willing to document everyone's keepers in the first post as long as everyone agrees to it. The trick there is getting everybody to respond.  As of right now only 4 people seem to have responded to this post as well as updated their keepers.

Yeah, I'll hopefully do it sometime this week...

Well darn. I guess I don't really care. I mean, Pujols, Votto, Miggy, Gonz, Tex, Fielder, Howard, Youk, Morales, Morneau.... everyone is going to get a good 1b anyway, so I might as well keep Zim over Prince beings 3b only has a handful of awesome players (Longoria, Arod, Wright, Zim, Beltre.... Michael Young? L).

EDIT: Apparently I dropped Zimmerman last season anyway.... so I just readded him now, lol. Tell me if I'm not allowed to do that and I'll just keep prince over him, but espn let me do it ;D.

If ESPN lets you do it then you're allowed to do it.

Exactly.  You can pick up free agents right now and keep them if you like up until the keeper lock date.

SS, please consider that it doesn't take more than checking twice per week to stay up to date during the season.  Otherwise, please try to find a replacement and get them in touch with me.

I think he may already be in the league as Team Crash N Burn.  Is his name Chris Fachman?

Also, 6 people have updated their keepers but I only have 4 votes concerning the draft pick trading.  Please vote.  Thanks.

Title: Re: Fantasy Baseball 2011

We have until draft day to update keepers right?

I have updated mine, but I'm still waffling as I have a lot of players that I really, really, really would love to keep.

Anybody want to look at mine and tell me if I've got an obvious one I should be keeping that I'm not? and if so who not to keep for him? I feel that Chapman is my only questionable keeper, but I've got 3 other guys in mind that I'd like to keep.
Title: Re: Fantasy Baseball 2011
Post by: Rawrlolsauce! on February 10, 2011, 08:28:48 PM
DUDE! Clint Barmes couldn't get a hit to save his life, and Cuddyer is shockingly over paid. If you keep both of them it's the equivalent to keeping Nick Punto!
Title: Re: Fantasy Baseball 2011

Well, I'm the only one who actually can see your keepers besides yourself so you're going to have to tell everyone in order for them to say yey or nay.

Title: Re: Fantasy Baseball 2011
Post by: Red Dragon Thorn on February 10, 2011, 08:41:15 PM
Oh, interesting, I guess I assumed that Keepers were public knowledge.

Currently I am keeping:

Joey Votto, Buster Posey, Ubaldo Jimenez, Aroldis Chapman.

Other players I would love to keep, but currently am not: Matt Kemp, David Price, and Jayson Werth.

I am only looking at keeping one of the three in place of Chapman. Ubaldo, Votto and Posey are simply too good.
Title: Re: Fantasy Baseball 2011
Post by: Rawrlolsauce! on February 10, 2011, 09:09:58 PM
That was a joke. I wanted to know if he was going to handicap himself so he wouldn't whoop us this year.

As for RDT: Yeah. I'd without a doubt keep Matt Kemp over Chapman. Even though he looked good last year, he still hasn't proven he can be a starter at the major league level. He'd get a lot of Ks, but BBs, ERA, and WHIP are measured too and he won't be as impressive there. And there's always that injury risk when you're throwing 103MPH.
Title: Re: Fantasy Baseball 2011
Post by: Red Dragon Thorn on February 10, 2011, 09:15:07 PM
How do you feel about Price over Chapman?

I'd really like to have two A grade starters, but last year one of the things that really hurt me was lack of good relief pitchers.

Plus if the Reds carry through on making Chapman a Starter, he could be awesome-sauce X 2.
Title: Re: Fantasy Baseball 2011
Post by: Rawrlolsauce! on February 10, 2011, 09:22:52 PM
I'd take Price before Chapman. I'd possibly even take Gallardo (he's a free agent atm) over Chapman.

My question is if I want JJ or Liriano. JJ won't have the best offense behind him and I'm worried about injuries, but Liriano is really overrated and is probably going to get traded this season (might have trouble adjusting)

I'm keeping A-Gon, Hanley, Doc and Lester.  I figure with the new draft order I've been handicapped enough.  ;)

If any would like to join, please let me know and I can add you.

Alex, you're in for SK.  I'll need your e-mail to invite you to join.

STAMP, see PM (to be sent shortly)

All, help me find out who is who of the 4 that are left.  I don't want somebody who still wants in to get replaced if for some strange reason they haven't got e-mails or seen this topic.

Just a quick note: thanks to all our managers!  I am glad we got our league off the ground for a 2nd year.

My friend, Gerald, cannot believe his good fortune.  His favorite team is the Mariners and favorite player is Felix Hernandez.  And then he noticed he ALSO had Pujols!

It will be a challenge to repeat, but I imagine I'll be eating some crow this year.  :D

Speaking of first basemen.....

I keep viewing Miguel Cabrera as Charlie Sheen
Justin Morneau is back on track :D. Take a guess who had the highest OBP and SLG before he was injured, last year....
I'm giving away a Prince Fielder to a good home. Preferably without children due to aggression. Owners have to buy an ample amount of cheese burgers. Please save him from the humane society.

Here are some projections (to be taken with a grain of salt).  They are based on ESPN 2011 projections but do not include the fielding or calculated categories.  Once I get the spreadsheet uploaded I'll post a link so you can see where your team needs some improvement:

King Felix108
Crash N Burn108
Dodgers106
So Cal Doubles104
Barreling Marauders      92
Fireboy86
Soul Seekers85
Los Perdedores85
RDT84
Isengard Orcs77

Yeah, I haven't been able to dedicate as much time as I'd like either - I've been setting my lineups for 1-2 weeks at a time, and so I don't have a great reaction to minor injuries, hot streaks, etc.

Depending on the severity Posey may be out for the rest of the season.  You will want to drop him if that happens unless you plan on keeping him for next season.
Title: Re: ESPN Keeper Fantasy Baseball 2011
Post by: Red Dragon Thorn on May 27, 2011, 10:04:47 PM
Yeah, I've been considering dropping him outright, but he's such a good player, in a hard to fill position, he's almost worth keeping on that DL spot and then tagging him for keeps next year.

Title: Re: ESPN Keeper Fantasy Baseball 2011

I browsed through each team today and noticed that the bottom 4 teams didn't seem to be checking/updating because of how DL players were still in their line-up.  I am interested to see if this league is actually worth having.  If we're only going to have half the participants actually participating then we shouldn't have a league.  soul seeker has said that he wants to be replaced so I expect inactivity from him but I have had no other such word from anyone else.

Thoughts?

Thanks STAMP.

Let me throw out an idea.  Would those of you who want to play but have limited time be interested in have weekly team settings rather than daily?  This way, you would be allowed to set your team just once per week on a Saturday or a Sunday and then not have to worry about missing something mid-week.  We could also see about a bi-weekly setting but don't think ESPN has that option. (haven't looked just guessing)

Here is one thing I've noticed about fantasy baseball, if you do a everyday league, then people fall behind because they can't do it everyday.  But, if you do a weekly league, people forget to check it and change their lineups.  There are just so many games that you kind of lose track of what week it is and if you did anything to your team or not.  So it is complicated to keep a full league interested all year, but whatever the majority wants, I'm cool with!

Scott, please let Dave know that I would be glad to switch the team I invited him to with yours or with the other team that we are looking to replace.

His options are Isengard Orcs, Los Ped... and your current team.

Also, thanks for helping get so many replacement peoples.  I wish I could get some of my friends to join.

This morning I updated rosters for 3 teams that had obviously not been checked in two weeks (or more).  We have already replaced three managers.  We either need people to actually check their team or we need more replacement managers.  If you know anyone who wants to be in a keeper league, please give me their e-mail so I can invite them.  Any team that goes dormant for more than two weeks will be replaced without notice.

Well, I got us another manager.  (Sean, you have mail.)  He's a very active manager.  Of course, we're getting close to the point that our non-Redemption managers will outnumber our Redemption managers.   ;D

Also, RDT must be busy helping with Nats and stuff since his team has been somewhat inactive.  I'm sure he'll be back after Nats.

I don't think it is too much to ask to check and update your team once per week minimum.

As of today Eric Berkenpas has been invited to join the league to replace Alex (Pitt Minor League).
