College Football Upset Weekend
« on: October 04, 2013, 06:54:15 AM »

Tomorrow is the first week that the vast majority of teams begin their conference schedules. After weeks of low-tier opponents, some teams get "surprised" by their in-conference foes. This thread is for predictions about who gets upset during "Upset Weekend."

I am going with Washington over Stanford, even though Stanford has already played a couple of in-conference games and are at home.

Minnesota def. Michigan, 31-30.  ::)

Otherwise, the biggest upset might be that the Navy, Army, and Air Force get to play their games. Take that Congress!

Top five upset alerts in order of likelyhood:

Notre Dame over ASU (i don't know if you can really call this an upset... ASU won a game on a technicality...)
Minnesota over Michigan
Maryland over FSU
Washington over Stanford
Georgia Tech over Miami

All the rest "seem" pretty straight forward.  I'd be pretty surprised if any of the other high seeds lost.
Gates of Hell is by far the best card in the game.  No questions asked.

I thought Tennessee was going to pull it off, until they fumbled away the win in overtime.  :o

Yea downright horrible. In Maryland's defense, their starting QB was knocked out mid 2nd quarter when the score was 14-0. I don't think they were going to win at that point anyways but I also don't think it would have been quite the laughter it was had the starting QB played all game.

I was wondering why you crossed out Kentucky's upset over SC, but then I realized it was because you made a slight error.

If only the Minn/Mich game had ended at the half, so that you could put us down for a near miss upset too... :(

Neither of the "upsets" were really even upsets.

I don't disagree. Both of them were at home, and Auburn is undefeated and will likely take Ole Miss' spot in the Top 25. Notre Dame may even take ASU's spot (not in that order, BTW). Stanford, OK, OK State, or South Carolina losing at home would have been big upsets. Ohio State losing on the road would have been shocking only because they have the current longest winning streak in FBS. Georgia losing on the road would have been big because they were a preseason favorite for a BCS bowl, and their QB is a touchdown machine.

Watching the early upsets of Texas over Oklahoma, and Missouri over Georgia (both on the road), makes me think that "Upset Weekend" is happening a week later this year.  ;)
