Zerubbabel and Self

1. Is Zerubbabel a Zerubbabel's Temple (High) Priest?

Zerubbabel
Type: Hero Char. • Brigade: White • Ability: 12 / 8 • Class: None • Special Ability: Search deck for a good card with Nehemiah or Ezra reference and add it to hand or battle. • Identifiers: OT Male Human • Verse: Ezra 3:2 • Availability: Promotional cards (2008 District Tournament)

2. If Self "copies" an angel, is it considered an "evil angel", a "demon", neither, both, or what?

3. Does Self's ability copying act continuously? I know it has a stipulation for if the hero leaves play to make Self 0/0, but if a hero uses an enhancement that says "increase hero 3/3 this battle", does Self get the 3/3 as well?

4. Do you get to pick a new hero to copy whenever Self enters battle, or is the choice once the first time he enters battle?

5. If Self is in territory and the hero being copied leaves play and I play Torment to heal Self (as he's being discarded by game rule), does he return to what the hero was or to */* with a choice again next time he blocks?

Self
Type: Evil Char. • Brigade: Multicolor • Ability: * / * • Class: None • Special Ability: Abilities (*/*) match the abilities of one of opponent’s Heroes in play. If that Hero leaves the field of play, abilities become 0/0. • Identifiers: Generic NT  Human, (gender, testament, and other identifiers match selected Hero) • Verse: Colossians 3:9 • Availability: Promotional cards (2006 District Tournament)

questions I'm sure of...
1.  No.  Zerubbabel was not a Priest...he was a governing official.

4.  No.  The text on the card is an identifier not a SA to be used every time.

5.  I'm pretty confident that he chooses a new hero then (after Torment is played).

1: Note which brigade he is. No Zerubbabel is not a priest.

2: Demon

3: Good question, I have no idea.

4: When he first enters play

5: I believe he chooses a new hero, but I am unsure.

No. He was just the governor that oversaw it's construction.

It is a demon. Evil angel is not an identifier.

I'm not sure, but I would think so. I know that if a hero has gained abilities from set aside before being copied, then Self gets those abilities

4. Do you get to pick a new hero to copy whenever Self enters battle, or is the choice once the first time he enters battle?

The choice is actually as soon as Self enters play. His "ability" is actually an identifier, which is active when he comes into play. If he is returned to hand or deck, however, he resets and can choose again the next time he enters play, but otherwise you only get one choice.

5. If Self is in territory and the hero being copied leaves play and I play Torment to heal Self (as he's being discarded by game rule), does he return to what the hero was or to */* with a choice again next time he blocks?

You can heal him, but since his "ability" is actually an identifier as mentioned, he would go back to being 0/0 and thus discarded (again).

Let's say I CM my opponent's hero on their turn that Self is copying so he gets discarded. If they then RA with another hero, can I play Torment to heal Self, have him back in territory at 0/0, then block with him (assuming he's not being ignored)?

Nice.  Yes, I think that works because characters are not discarded in the battle phase for having 0 toughness.

However, I'm not sure if he resets in the discard pile.  Normally, cards do and thus it may be that Self chooses a new hero after being healed.

Looks like that will work.

Other Abilities > Variable Value (x/x)
General Description
Cards with an asterisk “*” or the letter “x” printed on the card are fall into this category. The “*” or “x” represent variable values or numbers that are defined either in the special ability or the identifier portion of the card. The values they represent may be determined by a state of the game (which may change during the card’s use) or by the holder.

The answer to number 3 is "Yes".
Final ANB errata: Return player to game.

Heal stops them from hitting the d/c pile.

Then if my hero is discarded in the prep phase and I heal in the d/c phase, where was the hero?

In the discard pile. Heal is like a delayed negate.

I have to say, when I saw this thread, I misread "Zerubbabel" as "Zebulun." This leads me to a question...

Can you block Zerubbabel with a Self from your hand no matter how many cards are in your opponent's hand?

Use the Mad Bomber to rescue his Province.
