Why are you adding words to the ability?
If you were to go on a trip... where would you like to go?

"add your hero to battle" means that you may add one of your heroes that can be targeted by You Will Remain into the battle.  You can target any hero you have in play with that ability (that are otherwise not restricted from entering battle).

It's better not to add words to a card's printed special ability if you're unsure about how it works, as you'll probably end up confusing yourself even more.  Just explain where you're getting lost at, folks on this board are pretty good at explaining card interactions.

It says add your Hero to battle it doesn't say add your hero back to battle. Basically it lets you make a second rescue attempt even if you lost the battle. Really helpful and useful expecially since your opponent doesn't get to bring another evil character out they have to use the same one.

Example: your band gets scattered. You have no heroes in battle. Remove you will remain to add your new hero to the same battle to continue that battle.. And potentially rescue a soul

So, am I getting this right -- where it says "add your Hero to battle" - the "your Hero" can refer to ANY HERO (that I control)?

That wording is very confusing, because the word "your" seems to indicate that it has to be the SAME HERO that just got removed.

Thank you.

Yes. Hero must be in play.

I was going to post some snarky comment about this, but I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt that you're probably a newer player who's never seen an "add to battle" ability before. So... you're lucky.

If you're often confused about abilities (sometimes, even if you're not), it might be worth it to download or bookmark the REG.

By the by, for anyone concerned, the link to the REG from the links section of this forum doesn't work (at least, not for me). Fortunately, the link from Cactus's website works: https://www.cactusgamedesign.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/REG_PDF_4.0.0.pdf

Thank you.

Eric, let me give you an example.  You rescue with hero A.  The battle wages and hero A loses the battle either by losing by the numbers or by a special ability.  You now have a chance to add A HERO that you control (hand or territory) to the battle once hero A is removed from the battle.  I understand that the "your hero" can be confusing, but if it was referring to hero A then it would say "add THAT hero to battle".  Remember that hero A has already been removed from play by the time you can use You Will Remain, so the new hero must be another one you control.

Thank you, Watchman.

That clears it up nicely. Also, with this new understanding, I think that "You will Remain" could be a very useful good card!

God bless...

It's an extremely useful card. I've used in in several occasions and had it in my deck in the last tourney we played. It's definitely good when you know your opponent may only have Christian Martyr in his hand, and/or when you're about to rescue your fifth soul. It's an almost guarantee that you'll be able to keep the battle going and win it, this winning the game.

Another question about "You Will Remain":

The first part says: "If opponent uses an evil "end the battle" ability this turn, you may begin a new battle."

If I have the card (You Will Remain) out as an active covenant, would I be able to use it over and over again in the fashion stated above?

(NOTE: I would not be using the second part of the ability, which stipulates that I would have to remove the card from the game.)

Thanks,

emonier

I think yes if they use an end the battle you don't have to discard you will remain seeing that there's not a whole lot of end the battle cards being used you probably won't get too many uses out of it though.

Two points of clarification and confirmation.

Add to battle can now come from hand--it does not have to be in play. This was changed after last year's Nationals.

You Will Remain cannot be used if the Hero loses by the numbers because the opponent is not removing the Hero--they are being discarded by game rule if they lose by the numbers.

Correct--if opponent uses an "end the battle" ability you can simply start a new battle as many times as they use an end the battle ability, but keep in mind you cannot use the same unique Hero more than once to attack.

Have you checked the REG?
Have you looked it up in ORCID?
