James: Negate special abilities on Evil Characters (and weapons) with toughness X or less. May band to Thaddeus.

I block with King Saul and Saul's Javelin (3/2). There are two disciples out. Is Saul's Javelin negated?

Is Saul's Javelin negated?

Does it matter? Seriously though, I guess it could matter in certain cases (like Abner/Abner's Spear). I would have to rule that it's not, though I'm not certain. There are two sort of similar examples that I can think of, one for each side of the argument. First, weapons don't count for toughness for things like Thaddeus, Widow, etc. Which might mean that NoN doesn't count for toughness of weapons. However, things like experience credit, permanent increase/decrease does count for toughness for things like Widow and Thaddeus, so if NoN is more like that, then I'd say SJ isn't negated. I personally think that the second is the stronger argument, and if I had to rule, I'd go that way, i.e. SJ is NOT negated, because it is a 6/4 enhancement.

I have never agreed with the toughness of enhancements not counting for cards like Widow and co. because the enhancements do just that- they enhance the character. Yes it makes cards like Widow,Thadd, ect. stronger but the wording should say toughness on a card to get around the targeting.

I would rule James negates Abners spear on Abner.

It would hurt thaddeus actually but I agree with your assessment of weapons. IMO they should modify the characters numbers.
