When Placed Enhancements Follow Characters

Weapons:
Pretty sure it is ruled that a weapon placed will not follow if played in battle(even if coming from territory and being placed in a previous phase) and the character is removed from play(or becomes a lost soul).

So I'm assuming with CWD up a weapon would follow as a placed enhancement since it would not have been played?

Also, I'm wondering if weapons can follow to Tartaros and Chamber still, or is that specifically because it's an instead ability?

Placed Enhancements:
My understanding is that placed enhancements with place abilities will follow in a circumstance where the character is removed from play during battle unlike weapons, correct? But also discarded if the character becomes a lost soul?

Thanks

Weapons and place abilities only have superficial similarities. There is a rule that allows a warrior to retain a weapon of matching brigade after battle (even letting you swap weapons from wielder to wielder if you have multiple warriors while bringing a weapon into battle), but weapons are not placed on them. Why would a weapon not be able to go to Tartaros or Chamber of Angels, unless perhaps the "holds" identifier precludes tagalongs.

I'm really looking for why and when a character can continue to hold a weapon vs when they can't

Apparently the weapons can only be switched when the original holder is removed which also seems inconsistent with the idea that the weapon is discarded as a played enhancement when characters are removed from battle..

This is what the REG says about weapons:

Quote
This is a special kind of enhancement marked by a shield icon on the left side of the card. Weapon-class enhancements may be held by warrior-class characters outside of battle, and may be placed on a warrior-class character during a player’s preparation or discard phases. The special ability on a weapon-class enhancement only activates in battle.

Outside of battle, weapon-class enhancements follow the same rules as placed cards by following their bearers to any location in which they are moved. During battle, weapon-class enhancements can also be played using the rules of initiative.  Following battle resolution, when enhancements are normally discarded, a Warrior-Class character’s controller may decide to keep one weapon-class enhancement on the warrior-class character

I don't know where you're getting the idea that weapons can't change bearers after battle, but it looks to be that weapons outside of battle follow the exact same rules as placed cards and will follow everywhere except captivity.

so if a hero is withdrawn do they keep the weapon? or is it discarded as a 'played' enhancement?

okay so why don't they follow through grapes then? so if invoking terror was played on joshua holding a weapon does the weapon get discarded or can it follow?

and where does it say that you can switch weapons around?

If invoking terror UDs a hero with a weapon attached to him then the weapon gets UD'd with the hero. Same with Grapes: the weapon gets shuffled with the hero.

Weapons don't follow through grapes (AFAIK) because weapons are not attached during battle. Weapons can be attached to valid characters instead of being discarded after battle but if grapes is involved the character is gone before the time when the weapons can be attached. If you underdeck josh with a weapon in battle the weapon does not follow because weapons aren't held in battle but if you do it to a josh in territory who is holding a weapon there the weapon would follow.

okay so if they aren't attached during battle, then you can move a sword of the spirit to any warrior class character in battle 'following battle resolution'?

"Following battle resolution, when enhancements are normally discarded, a Warrior-Class character’s controller may decide to keep one weapon-class enhancement on the warrior-class character"

or is this saying it may only be retained by the warrior class character which was previously holding it?

What if the weapon was attached in territory and then the hero entered battle with the weapon. An EC blocks and plays Invoking Terror. Wouldn't the weapon be underdecked with the hero since it was placed on him in territory and not placed during battle; same if it was AoG enh or. FotS enh? Same scenario with Grapes.

Weapons don't count as attached while they are in battle regardless of where they came from, what they were on before or after, or anything else at all. In battle weapons are normal enhancements and no attached to anything. They are only ever attached outside of battle.

I appreciate you explaining this, but does it say somewhere in the reg or rules that they aren't held in battle?

I second Karius. I don't believe this info is accurate. Here's what the REG says concerning placed enhs:

"If a card is placed on another card and the underlying card is relocated, the placed card is generally relocated (regardless of protection) to the same location that the underlying card is located and remains there."

There's only three exceptions to this rule and two of them deals with sites and lost souls and the other about capture then the placed enh is discarded.

The REG doesn't get into or make an exception for the scenario you're describing. This topic came up recently and the elders made it clear, in union with the REG, that the placed enh follows the underlying card.

You're thinking on the wrong direction (If I'm making any sense at all). They can't be held outside of battle because the REG doesn't say they can be, not because it says they can't.

@Watchman: Weapons are not considered placed enhancements ever. They simply follow the rules of placed enhancements while they are outside of battle.

Don't confuse the rules for weapons in battle with the rules for placed Enhancements in battle. They are not the same thing.

@Kevinthedude is spot on with what he's saying.

A weapon can be held by the character it is played on. You don't get to switch between characters. The one scenario I can think of where that play is legal is this:

Two warrior-class Heroes are in battle. A weapon is actived on #1 who is later remove from battle. Hero #2 is a matching brigade so the enhancement can be moved to Hero #2. After battle #2 may retain the weapon.

Bonus points - "Who does #2 work for"?

Unless the rule has changed, (which I'm not aware of), the insert card that comes in Kings packs to explain how weapons works says that weapons can be moved from one WC character to another (of matching brigade obviously) when the characters are returned to territory. A player can also choose to not let the weapon remain on an opponent's character they banded to during battle.

Have you looked it up in ORCID?

Ok that's where I went wrong. Weapons are held instead of placed.
