Player A has only Blue Heroes in play. He attacks with Jacob, banding to his opponent's silver Hero. Vitellius blocks. How many cards does the blocker draw?

Vitellius: You may draw X cards. Cannot be negated by a good card.
X=number of good brigades opponent has in play

I say one. Opponent has implies ownership.

That's just silly, captured cards don't have brigades anymore :P ;)

But, I do agree that the rescuing player would have 2 brigades because he would be controlling the silver hero in battle.

But the opponent doesn't truly have the card in play, You do, he is just using it.

Hey,

I believe "has" is the verb that equates to the noun "holder."  So it would count the number of brigades on cards that he holds which would include the opponent's character he banded to.

Why does it relate to "holder" rather than "you"/"yours"?

Food for thought: What if it was the number of evil brigades your opponent has in play and your Seven Wicked Spirits was in their territory. Would you count that?

I think any character you control should count.

I agree with RR, Gabe, and Tim.  "Opponent has" means cards that are your opponent's.  And "your" means ownership AND control.

If it is not your opponent's card, then he doesn't really "have" it.  He is only "borrowing" it for that point of the game.

I always assumed that Prof stood for Professor, but now I'm thinking it might stand for Prophet.  You agreed with Gabe and he hadn't even posted on this thread!!!  ... yet.  :o

The same verbage used on Vitellius was also used on Job Overcomes.

Quote from: Job Overcomes
For each evil brigade your opponent has in play,...

We find here, here and here that you only count cards that you both own and control when determining the value for brigades "your opponent has in play".

That means that the controler of Vitellius only draws one card in Tim's example.

If that wasn't the case, mean people like RR and Lambo would do things like make you block with their Self and play Job Overcomes to make you discard 7!  :D
Have you visited the Land of Redemption today?

Thanks for finding those old links, Gabe! I knew that there was some precedent behind it. I even remember thinking about doing the Self/Job Overcomes trick in my Genesis deck, until learning that such a thing is illegal. I didn't connect that to this case though. Excellent.

It also makes me happy that we played it right in last night's game.

That is weird, I really thought I had seen you commenting on this before I wrote.  In fact, I remember almost wording my agreement something along the lines of "how can the last 2 Nats champs be wrong?".  Odd considering that I don't believe that God has given me any gifts of prophecy.

Oddly enough, professor isn't actually the most accurate either, since that title usually refers to teachers in college, while I only teach at the High School level.  However, "Teacher Underwood" sounded pretty dumb to me, so I went with "Prof" :)

I also like how you "agreed with Tim" right after three different Tims in a row posted. :)

On that basis you may have wanted to go with "Caretaker Underwood."  On a Dickensian coolness scale this would rate somewhere between Pecksniff and Pumblechook.  (Nowhere near M'Choakumchild--but then again what is?)

Oh yeah, and Gabe is right.   ;)

Just as long as he's not professor Gradgrind.
I am not talking about T2 unless I am explicitly talking about T2. Also Mayhem is fine now somehow!
