Are there abilities that happen instantly and therfore can not be negated? If so, what types of abilities are these? examples? This sometimes confuses me and is why I ask.

I *think* any enchantments played preblock.

so any offensive character who discards top card is cbn? Jephthah is cbn? Any enhancment played through Hidden Treasures is cbn? and jacob playing enhancements pre block is cbn? Am I on the right track now? That was a lot of question marks.

That is not true..... and what are enchantments?

The only abilities that cannot be negated are the ones that 1.)say they cannot be negated, 2.) are given "cannot be negated" status by another card (i.e. Asherah Pole), 3.) were completed during a previous phase or turn, 4.) were gained abilities from set-aside.

My wife is a hottie.

so, am I correct about the abilities that I stated? Are these the types of abilities that happen instantly and can not be stopped?

No. Discarding the top card can be negated, unless something else says otherwise.

Jephthah is cbn?

No. Jephthah's ability can be negated. If it is, the top card is returned to your deck, and the two EC's are returned to territory.

Not unless the enhancement says it is CBN.

and jacob playing enhancements pre block is cbn?

Not unless the enhancement says it is CBN.

I think you are confusing some correct rules which are similar with these assumptions. As YMT stated, the only abilities that are CBN are the ones he listed. However, there have been some rules made which make some of those situations close to CBN. For example, the enhancement that Jacob or a green prophet plays pre-block can be negated in general, but the ability to play that enhancement (i.e. Jacob's ability or Hidden Treasures' ability) cannot be interrupted (effectively CBN once it is played and hasn't been prevented). And if you choose the blocker pre-block (i.e. you use Obedience of Noah on Jacob) then that ability also cannot be interrupted. This was ruled so that you wouldn't have confusing situations where cards are unplayed.

Does that help?

Yes sir, that clear up my situation thanks a lot. Another question similar to this, to negate a character's ability you need an interrupt right? For instance, I use enchanter's ability and discard an orange card to return Susanna to territory. My opponent then plays he is risen which interrupts the battle and sets me aside. This stops enchanter's ability, but do I get my discarded enhancement back?

Enchanter
Type: Evil Char. • Brigade: Pale Green • Ability: 6 / 7 • Class: • Special Ability: May discard a pale green or orange Enhancement from hand to return a Hero in battle to owner’s territory.

He is Risen
Type: Hero Enh. • Brigade: White • Ability: 3 / 3 • Class: None • Special Ability: Interrupt the battle and set aside X Evil Characters for X turns. You may add a N.T. angel to battle. • Play As: Interrupt the battle and set aside X Evil Characters for X turns. You may band a N.T. angel into battle. • Identifiers: NT, X = the number of your N.T. female Heroes in play.
