"Set this fortress aside.  If you have initiative, you may interrupt the battle and place your Hero on this fortress.  Hero is protected from effect.   Each time you rescue a Lost Soul, return one Hero to your territory.  This fortress is protected from discard."

If I have banded heroes in battle, this can only save one of them?  Or can it save them all?

I agree, which means you can only save some if you want as well (for instance, leave your opponent's heroes, or your hero with Destructive Sin on him).

Hmmm... each time you "activate" it (by deciding to interrupt and place) you save one Hero, but I believe that you can activate it multiple times in succession, since you would presumably still have initiative after removing a Hero from battle.

So I would say it can save as many as you want.

You would need to do one at a time, at each initiative check, as this allows for dominant play.  (e.g. Opponent CM's one hero of the aforementioned banding chain after they realize you plan on rescuing each.)

so whats the difference between multiple activations of this fortress and multiple activations of UnholyWrit and The Silver Trumpets?

This doesn't have a "May be used twice" or "Discard after use" stipulation?
