Violent Men (CoW)

Hey all,

Quick question that came up in my game last night.

Violent Men (CoW) states: "First Strike.  If blocking, opponent must discard a character in territory or withdraw a Hero.  Cannot be prevented."

So I was attacking with Susanna (TxP), but she happened to be my only character in territory.  My opponent blocked with Violent Men (CoW) and I am forced to withdraw.  Do I get special initiative as Susanna (TxP) is being withdrawn to interrupt the ability with a card like "He is Risen" (RoA) or do I have to withdraw without being able to interrupt.

"He is Risen" (RoA) states: "Interrupt the battle and set aside X Evil Characters for X Turns."

Thanks
-Steve

Yes, you have special initiative since your last character is being removed from battle. So you can play an interrupt or negate to try and stop the withdraw.

Cool thank you; I thought I should get special initiative to interrupt, but it was argued the other way.

I'm guessing the reason it was argued that you wouldn't get special initiative is because Violent Men is worded "Opponent must withdraw a hero...", as opposed to "Withdraw a hero".  However, just because you choose which option you want to do, it doesn't change the fact that it is your opponent's ability causing the withdrawal.  Therefore, you get special initiative.

One time I attacked with a Purple hero banded to a Teal hero.  My opponent blocked with Archelaus and targeted my Purple hero for discard (I had no Teal enhancements in hand).  I chose to withdraw both my heroes so that I'd give myself special initiative, which I used to play Counsel of Abigail and win the battle.

If You gave Your life to love them so will I
