Title: Triggered Ability Timing
Post by: ChristianSoldier on March 25, 2017, 11:17:54 PM
When do abilities that are triggered in the middle of another ability (or chain of abilities) resolve?

The big examples are:
Say I have a Pale Green character and I have 3 Two Thousand Horses and my opponent has a Music Leader in their territory. When do they search their deck?

When do Lost Soul Entry abilities activate? Say I play Two Thousand Horses and Draw "Lawless" Lost Soul, when do the cards get revealed?

Two Thousand Horses: You may interrupt the battle, draw 2 and play the next enhancement.
Music Leader (Abridged): When your opponent uses a draw or search ability (under some conditions) search deck for 2 Enhancements involving music.
Lawless: If you draw this card reveal the top 6 cards of a deck, put Lost Souls in play and the deck's owner may add a revealed evil card to hand.

I want to say if they trigger at the same time, then the turn player's effect triggers first... but Im not 100% sure on that.

So we have two different examples here and they are treated differently.

In the Music Leader example, 2K Horses must complete before Music Leader can be used. 2K Horses' ability includes the playing of an enhancement, so then that enhancement must complete as well.

In the Lawless example, Lawless becomes a part of 2K Horses completing therefore it triggers when it is drawn.

I have another example that needs clarified. My opponent has crown of thorns in play. He come in with a rescue attempt.
I block from hand with Emperor Otho.
I discard a card to discard all cards in battle.

My question is can it be negated because if he interrupts it then crown kills Otho. How does the timing work on this?????

Crown of Thorns isn't able to decrease Otho until after his ability (and the resulting Special Initiative) resolves. If the rescuer negates his ability without removing him from battle then Crown would decrease him and he'd be discarded at that point. Crown being out has no impact on whether or not Otho can be negated.
