Say I attack with Haggai and use both his special abilities to go get Z's temple and to band to Joiada, Son of Eliashib.  Does Joiada's SA activate since I place Z's temple into play?

I agree.  No reason it doesn't work.

No, it still would work the same.  Hero A's abilities activate first, then Hero B's.  Just because the 1st part of Hero A's ability banded in another hero doesn't mean Hero B get to cut in before Hero A is done.

It would be:
   Hero A's Banding
   Hero A's Search
   Hero B's Ability(s)
    etc etc etc
