Eternal Inheritance + Christ's Triumph

If I have Christ's triumph on a hero in my territory and I play Eternal Inheritance rescuing a lost soul and then losing by the numbers, can I then use Christ's Triumph, thus having the potential to rescue 2 lost souls in 1 turn?

Eternal Inheritance - "If rescuing, a Covenant is active and your Hero is opposed, remove this from the game to rescue a Lost Soul. Battle continues as a battle challenge. Opponent may play an Enhancement."

Christ's Triumph - "Place on your N.T. human Hero: If your N.T. human Hero fails a rescue attempt, you may discard this card to begin a new rescue attempt with this Hero."
Filling my Ark since Nats 2016.

Soli Deo Gloria

I have heard of this combo but it does not make sense to me. The hero never failed the rescue attempt, he won the soul and lost the battle challenge by the numbers, which would not trigger Christ's Triumph SA. You have to fail the rescue attempt in order for Christ's Triumph to activate. Is this not the same logic as Ambush the City/ The Long Day?

No, because with Eternal Inheritance the hero does not rescue the soul.

I've quoted and emphasized what I believe are the relevant rules pertaining to the interaction of Eternal Inheritance and Christ's Triumph.

Quote from: REG > Glossary
Rescue Attempt

A rescue attempt is the effort to recover a Lost Soul from the Land of Bondage by battle. A rescue attempt battle is initiated when a Hero is placed in the Field of Battle. The battle is considered a rescue attempt if a Hero has access to a Lost Soul at any point in the battle. A player is allowed one rescue attempt per turn unless a card states otherwise. However, once a player has made a successful rescue attempt, they may not make another rescue attempt until each other player has had a turn.

Quote from: REG > Glossary
Battle Resolution

As is described in Battle Resolution in the rulebook, there are four outcomes to a battle:
● Evil Character wins
● Hero wins
● Mutual destruction
● Stalemate
However, beyond the outcome of the battle you must also determine the outcomes of the battle challenge or rescue attempt. Here is the order to follow:
1. Determine the outcome of the battle (Evil Character wins, Heroes wins, mutual destruction, or stalemate).
2. Determine success or failure of the rescue attempt or battle challenge. If the battle was a battle challenge, then success or failure of a battle challenge has only one condition, the battle outcome in step 1. If Hero wins and has (or has gained) access to a Lost Soul, it’s a successful rescue. If Hero loses battle or loses access to opponent’s Lost Souls, then the rescue fails.
3. Resolve end-of-battle special ability based on the conditions established in Steps 1 and 2. All unaffected cards are treated under normal gameplay rules (such as discard, return to territory, Land of Redemption, etc).

While the Hero does rescue a Lost Soul, it is through the special ability on EI, not through a successful rescue attempt. As part of the SA on EI, the rescue attempt fails which can trigger Christ's Triumph.

I had always thought the rule (instituted after some silly ANB combo decks surfaced about 6 years ago) was "If you rescue a lost soul during an attack, you are restricted by game rule from making a rescue attempt until every other player has taken a turn".  But when I looked this up in the REG, I found this:

Quote from: The REG
A player is allowed one rescue attempt per turn unless a card states otherwise. However, once a player has made a successful rescue attempt, they may not make another rescue attempt until each other player has had a turn.

The restriction is based on a successful rescue attempt, defined as winning a LS by game rule at battle resolution.  It says nothing about rescuing LS by special ability.  So it definitely agrees that EI wouldn't preclude you from using Christ's Triumph, Lazarus, etc. to make a second rescue attempt and possibly rescue a second LS in the same turn.

I wonder if it is possible to win a T1 game on turn 1?

1. Activate I Am Creator, search deck for Lazarus and play him
2. Play another hero
3. Place Christ's Triumph on Lazarus
4. Play SoG/TSC and rescue 2 LS
5. Attack with a Clay hero that has a D1 ability (not one of the two you put in territory).  Play EI when blocked, rescue a 3rd LS.
6. After battle, discard Christ's Triumph and rescue with Lazarus.  Play Coat of Many Colors, then Love at First Sight on yourself, then Primary Objective.  Rescue a 4th LS.
7. Lazarus dies, attack with the 3rd hero you put in territory.  Win the game.

Your opponent would have to have 2 ECs to block your Clay hero and Lazarus, and no negates to play on them or ways to harm heroes/covenants in territory, and would have to choose not to discard their hand to stop PO, and have 5 LS in play.  And that's not counting the astronomical odds of a specific D8 to start a game.  Sounds legit   ;)
