Title: Thirty pieces?
Post by: jbeers285 on August 17, 2011, 08:00:09 PM
Can a person use thirty pieces of silver without presenting a blocker?

Yes, any time an opponent attacks you with a hero and you have Thirty Pieces of Silver active, you pick a hero to discard, regardless if you blocked the hero.

Now I love to use Thirty Pieces of Silver for its 2nd use while blocking with Uzzah. No soul at the cost of discarding an artifact that would have discarded itself at the end of battle phase anyways.  8)

That is just wrong Kirk, but it is such a good play. I forget what the wording is on that artifact specifically, but if the artifact doesn't say to discard after its limited use(s), does it stay around to be used for Uzzah or is there a game rule that says after a limited use is used it gets discarded?

I am fairly certain there is.

Thirty Pieces of Silver
Special Ability: Regardless of battle outcome Hero is discarded. "David's Harp" has no effect. May be used twice. • Play As: Once per turn, discard one Hero in play used in a rescue attempt or battle challenge against you after that battle. Negate David's Harp. May be used twice.

REG > Redemption Rulebook > Diagram of a Turn > Preparation Phase > Artifact Activation
"Some artifacts, covenants, or curses have a limited number of times you can use them. When these come to an end, you must discard them immediately. Once such an artifact, covenant, or curse is activated, it must be counted as having been used. This is true even if other events duplicate the effect of the artifac, covenant, or curse during the turn. "

Travis,

That is a great point, artifacts with a limited use are discarded immediately after the last use happens. However, with 30 Pieces, the use is not determined until battle resolution. So Uzzah can discard the 30 Pieces to fulfill his special ability and 30 pieces remains active through the end of battle phase since it is not negated.
