The two witnesses says after battle discard all evil characters that blocked if the two witnesses get under decked during battle do they still activate after battle?

based on how great image works i would say yes

kevin described it as a pending ability where in play targets are still viable

my question was if an ec is protected from two witnesses can they be dc after battle?

i'm going with no based on fool soul not discarding protected gideon

Ongoing mandatory abilities persist, ongoing optional abilities do not.

Since Two Witnesses is mandatory, it happens even if they leave play.

Correct. The only way the EC would be discarded is if the ability was "regardless of protection."
