Title: The New Michael
Post by: Ammian on October 20, 2010, 02:01:22 PM
Hey everyone!  I'm back with another question.

→The old Michael said, "Michael and enhancements played with him cannot be interrupted, prevented, negated or redirected."
This was way too powerful - and even game-breaking - because it meant Michael could band to a FBN character (Strong Angel, Captain of the Host, Ira, etc.) and then play enhancements with special abilities that worked, while his opponents were utterly doomed.  This got pretty ridiculous, and it made Michael the Archangel one of the few justifiable ultra-rares.

→The new Michael is a tad different.  He says: "Enhancements played by Michael cannot be negated."
Does this mean what I think it does?  If a FBN evil character comes out, does he interrupt and prevent Michael's ability (thus making it possible for enhancements played by Michael to be negated)?  In this case, Angel Wars Michael would be nowhere near as amazing as he was in the Warriors set, balancing the game out significantly.

→If this is the case:
♦While I am certainly glad that Cactus Game design didn't make the same mistake twice, it would still be nice if they made the two versions consistent with each other (possibly through some errata).  Otherwise, all they're really doing is forcing people to buy five factory sets, since the Warriors Michael is so much better than the Angel Wars one.
♦Is this the case, or is there some ruling I am not aware of?  It seems that once again, people who got Warriors packs en masse (like me) have an almost hopeless advantage over everyone else.  (For more information, see my thread on "Warriors Advantage" in the gameplay section.)

I appreciate your thoughts,
Ammian

It does the same thing. It was made in Angel Wars so they just simplified the wording...

Angel Wars Michael > Warriors Mike.  He is warrior class and can carry the dreaded Angels sword.  Although any thing Micahel Does CBN, ever!

Oh ...that's odd ...why would they do that?

→In that case, do other characters with text along those lines operate the same way?
♦For instance, does Simon the Magician get to play enhancements with their full effect when facing The Strong Angel?
♦Likewise, does Esau the Hunter get to play Slave Trade with its full ability against Ira?
♦If not, why should Michael be any different?

Thanks,
Ammian

I totally disagree with all of it and when I host private unnoffical tournaments Warriors CBN. Kings and Angels Wars can.
But that is what the ruling is... :P

Angel Wars Michael > Warriors Mike.
Nebuchadnezzar says hello.

which is why kings mike > aw mike > warriors mike. especially since daniel can cbn band to him.

Kings Mike is the only one with a Daniel reference, so Nebuchanezzar has no impact on AW Mike > WA Mike.

so the ruling is New Mike plays as Old Mike?

No. In order to redirect enhancements you have to interrupt. Interrupt + Prevent=Negate, so, basically, they all say "Enhancements used by Michael Cannot be Negated."

So Old Mike is broken and unstoppable and New Mike is a pain in the rump......got it :)

They're both the same...except for the reference.

And the warrior-class-ness. And the artwork.

Michael isn't really that good TBH. Yeah, i'm going to let him play an enhancement, only 99% of decent ECs will have init. Gathered to TSA? Oh well. You wasted 4 turns to give me init to play something CBN on defense.

Michael is good with: Angel's Sword, Striking Herod, and Protection of Angles. Nothing else.

Funny, you just named the three useful silver enhancements...well, one only makes the useless ones semi-useful.

I find it deeply ironic that this topic is so popular.

At one time or another, silver was good believe it or not.

I still don't see why silver is so bad. It has some awesome battlewinners. 7th trumpet anyone?

Outside of Angel's Sword. Angel at Jerusalem is worthless and doesn't make it into silver decks.

Having multiple low number characters for init is bad?

Does the protection only apply to the obtuse or acute ones?

A solid Silver deck will not do as well as mixed...unless you live in the midwest. If you're running with solid silver, then go ahead and use useless low numbered character just because they have small numbers. Have fun playing against Orange, a rather common defense.
